This is so ingenious! Not only did you capture the height of the city buildings, but also you enlivened the scene with touches of nature as well. And the color palette is excellent. The lovely blue sky serves as a delightful background, but all the other colors are of the same intensity - none are too light or too dark. You have a very good eye.

I always enjoy reading your artist statements. The colors in the sky are beautiful, and it seems the animals enjoy watching the colors in the night sky. Grandma

I think this is the most interesting and meaningful of your pictures this year. This is because of the beautiful combination of colors and the delightful, amazing variety of living things moving throughout. The glorious levels give depth to the picture, from the canopy, the geometry of the limbs, as well as the rich, fascinating growth on the floor of the jungle. It gives me a feeling of ... peace.

This is exhilarating. You really capture the motion and turbulence of the sea with the curling and turning of the clay. Also, the varying of shade of blue, especially the dark at the bottom showing the dark mysterious depths of the ocean. Such a wonderful piece!

This is excellent. Your art teacher is right about the combination of colors. I was thinking of all the beautiful things in nature that combine them, especially flowers like irises. The design is so interesting, curling and twisting, and very striking. Well done!

Great to see you're off to a wonderful artistic start this year. You know how much I like pink, and this "devilish donut" (with sprinkles - another favorite of mine) looks to me like he's about to go on an adventure. What do you think? You should write a story to go along with the picture.

Oh Huck - your lighthouse is excellent in detail and scale! And although it is simple black and white (is that charcoal?), you have done a grand job of showing background and texture. You are a true GREAT nephew, and you have a genuine gift. Love, Great-Aunt Peggy

I'm so delighted that you are learning about the ancient civilizations. Your Great Grandma Ivy was fascinated with that history. She taught it to her 6th grade classes and inspired my personal interest. Your artwork brings those antiquities back to my mind. Excellent work!

Your interpretation is brilliant, very authentic use of color and form. What is the name on the cartouche? I'm looking forward to seeing the upcoming art projects this year.

This is my favorite picture so far (although I’m also very fond of the sunshine circles). I had to have it for myself. I was bragging to my friend Linda about how great this is. When she saw it, she agreed and promptly order a copy to give to her granddaughter. Consequently, Huck’s Heart is finding its way into several Virginia homes. Love YOU and Love your beautiful (he)art.

Dear Huck, I am a friend of your Grandmother Libby ! I used to teach science like your Grandmother. I saw your artwork and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed seeing your picture. The colors in the background really help the fish to stand out. The details in the body of the fish are quite creative. Nice work !
