This tabby cat's body language says I'm ready to jump into that bowl of tuna when no one's looking or maybe when they are! Did you have a "model" or did you sketch him by heart? It is so fun to look at you entire protfolio and to see how your work has grown while still always expressing your creative style.

As Max knows, my first reaction to seeing this art piece was that it’s a couple dancing. He told me that that was not his intent. However, I still see a couple dancing!

I watched the slide show of your and your classmates’ art depicting a challenging experience. I’m very impressed with the facial expressions and ability to show the struggles. Yours, Max, is of a moment you worked hard at achieving: swimming! Your picture shows your determination that has resulted in you now playing in pools and even in Lake Michigan! I like your choice of the strong color orange as well as the defined lap lane. Excellent detail! Nanna

Love Nana's interpretation of your very abstract snowman's carrot nose. I'm guessing his red scarf blew off in the wind and is keeping his toes warm. What a fun assignment. xoxo Love, Mimi

You captured Picasso’s Cubism, Max. Is the orange the snowman’s carrot nose? Very creative! Nanna

I am quite taken by this piece, Max. While this may not be your intent, to my eye you have captured a peaceful Italian island, dotted with terracotta roof topped houses, blue sky overhead. The water is alive with your choice of brush strokes and colors. In the foreground I see a field, perhaps flowers or vegetables, but at their peak with the sun feeding and warming it all.

Max- Your use of color and form in the Tondo is so exciting. I love the way you used more circular things within the piece to emphasize the total circular shape.

That is a beautiful job of weaving, Max, and just the right blend of colors! Can we order the baskets themselves? I would love one! Nanna

I love this horse, Max! The mane and that dramatic eye draw in the viewer…or the rider! Nanna

Fun project and especially since it uses different values of your favorite color. Your snowscape reminds me of what happens when it snows in New York City: it starts out snowy white and once it hits the street it turns black. Looks like your snow guy is also a slushy New Yorker!

What a joyful, creative interpretation of a winter landscape. Love how you used several layers of paint to create three dimensions and how the dark tree and glittery branches pop against the background of cool colors.

The lines and the colors in both of your nature mono prints contrast and yet work together so effectively. The print lines as a backdrop seem to draw your eye to the leaves and the leaves and colors are so symbolic of the seasons.

Of course I love the Monet colors in starry winter night. Yet the tree itself draws me in, especially with the way you’ve textured the trunk. As trees are, it’s alive even with bare branches!

I like the realistic coloring and form of this butterfly. Friends offering suggestions to aide the process make it a communal project as well. Creative concept! Lovely butterfly!

OMG, Max. I love your troll! All that fantasy, magical reading seems to be exploding your imagination and your artistic talent. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Colors, shapes and textures are beautifully incorporated in this piece, Max! Hopefully you enjoyed the special technique of creating this delightful art!

It looks like you incorporated the assignment well, Max. The first picture must be a (pirate?) dog on the dictionary page defining “dog”. Perhaps the other drawing is part of the ship on that page. What an especially creative assignment and your depiction, Max!

What a cool idea to use words as a background for this painting. I Love how your thick black lines and images stand out against the wall of words!

I have to comment on this mirror image cutout art, Max. It is colorful and so creatively designed. I loved it on display in your house and have cards on the way! Nanna

Max- What an interesting design. It's awesome the way you made the triangles look as if they're overlapping. It really makes the design feel very three-dimentional. Hope you're enjoying doing art as much as I am viewing it!

Max, I like the bright yellow sun shining through the tree while the dark cloud sheds colorful rain drops on the green earth and the tree’s roots. Love, Nanna

OH Max I love your very inventive tree. It's so strong and the colors are so bold and bright. I like that you included a balance of sun, clouds and rain. Having all three make me smile and think this tree is gonna thrive! -xoxoxMimi

Your beautiful red leaf print reminds me of the leaves changing and fall where we are in the northeast. Love how the border of simple evergreen shapes hints at the holiday season to come. -Mimi

This is such a happy picture! It could be balloons, flower petals in the breeze or just joyful thoughts. Nanna

Max- I can't believe how your work has progressed this year! The playful shapes in your latest "Texture" piece remind me of really animated cartoon images and anime. I also love the earlier rainbow spider web piece which really shows perspective with the tiny spot in the center. Can't wait to draw together this summer and in the future! xoxoxMimi
