Love your colors, Lucas. The sky is especially lovely, reminding me of some mornings in Ashland and some I've seen here in Las Vegas/Death Valley.

Good job, Lucas! I like your sky a lot and putting the shadows in the direction you did, makes it seem like a late winter afternoon. Also the "rough" spots you added to the trunks are quite effective. I'm used to thinking of birch as sort of black and white, so I'll be looking for a setting where I can see how the sun's reflection off the white snow may produce brown instead. Not so sure about the tracks going straight up - what animal were you imagining heading over the hill? The even bigger challenge in this exercise is to give a feel of roundness to the trunks; I think it worked better on some than on others. What do you think? If you agree, what do you think contributes to the round or flat effect? XO

Lovely box, Lucas! Maybe you have a career in front of you! Meanwhile, an excellent way to provide Tutu with sweetness for the holiday that fits within her diet. See you soon.

LUcas, I really like how you did this exercise, with the positive and negative spaces, the different shapes, and especially in the lower right corner how the edge seems to be 3-D turned back.

Lucas I like your color scheme, of course, but more impressive is how well you captured the depth of the skull. Keep up the good work!

Lucas, I like the colors here, as usual, and the depth you get with that central triangle. Also the fading in and out effect you get on several parts of the painting. I'd be interested in what sort of cells you were looking at for inspiration.

Not sure what happened to my comment, so here goes again: I really liked this exercise - drawing 2 different cats on the opposed folds. I hope to see it in person when next we visit. Snowma

Nice job showing the light source and motion, Lucas.Wish I'd had to do such exercises earlier in life. Might try it myself anyway. love, Snowma

Lucas, I really like this first work of the year. It's intriguing. I'll look forward to learning how to do it from you when we visit in Oct.

Lucas, Your curated gallery display is very imaginative! Is that CApt Ahab's brother? On the plane just yesterday, we were sitting next to a physicist researcher at MIT who mentioned he had seen someone else's lab experiment with octopus robots swimming in a pool. I think your pictures would be an excellent parable for that experimenter.

I continue to enjoy your color pallete. Sorry I couldn't see the description of the exercise. Also sorry you couldn't see some of the extraordinary art we've seen in the last few days in Tasmania.

Lovely colors, Lucas, and good variety of textures.

Lucas, I like your monochrome of MLK jr very much. Would love to hear your answers to the lessons' questions and whether you picked green for a particular reason. xo

Good effort at capturing the roundness of the lamp and light effect on the top and base. Cheers!

I really like your map, Lucas. I just wish I could get a bigger copy of it to study the details a bit more. something of what you've been reading as well as your favorite places. Might make a good t-shirt. I hope you'll have it at home when we come in Dec. XO

Aunt Diane and I have been looking at your gallery. So much growth in art skills! "I'm amazed at the intricacy of your compositions and curious to know more about your artistic choices." (Aunt Diane) In the most recent drawing, the contrast between the night sky (very Alaska feeling and you haven't even been there!) and the earth-bound part is so striking. On a moonlit night, the shapes around us do sort of lose their colors. Wondering about the path through the middle - water or land? XO

Lovely evolution of greens, Lucas, showing the influence of yellow especially.

Wow, LUcas! Such an interesting self portrait - BB, fishing, DogMan, painting, escaping in a boat (?), but best of all SKAT. Great work!

Wow, Lucas, such an interesting collage! Love the way you worked in favorite animals and other preferences. I hope we get to talk about what led you to each choice soon. xo

I like the orangey, slanted mustache one better, because of the bright colors. This has a very different personality. :-)

Yo, Lucas, LOL - terrific job of "found" art. We had a friend who made her living with such creations. Is it modeled on anyone you/we know?

VAn Gogh style? Very nicely done - sky variations, lights in background, color variety/gradations.

Love your frog! The depth of the mouth is especially impressive. I'd love to hear your story about this chap.

Very colorful - perhaps a career in bird clothing lies in the future?

Wow! fierce looking animal. Torn or cut pieces? Sorry I missed this one before.

Lucas, I really like your bird picture. Did you see these guys in the tree by the street? I'm happy because the spring birds are returning and I've had a lot of goldfinches outside my window, coming for the seed/suet block hanging in the tree.

Somehow I missed this one. Not exactly Gus, but a charmer all the same. Yesterday I was walking down the halls at the nearby hospital to see a friend. At least 3 of them are decorated with individual animal drawings done by local students - great colors and imaginary additions - nice way to liven up an otherwise not too inviting space.

Lucas, I really like the liveliness of your colors and the contrast of the background lightening bolts. xo

Lucas, I really like this work - the blended sky (sort of like the lake sometimes) and the tree shapes.

Really like the feeling of "ready to pounce" in this one, Lucas. And the variations on green you have put in.

Glad you are getting into the art of birds, Lucas. I look forward to others that you may draw based on what you see in your yard. Which flag does this come from? xo

I get a real jangely feeling from this piece., can almost see the four objects vibrating. I wonder if the purple is about to eat the green, which looks a bit like a baby dinosaur (perhaps you can tell I have been reading "Who Would Win" books lately. Your colors are always fun.
