Nice work on this Kaleidoscope, Sam! It's got a lot of complicated shapes, but you carried out the theme very nicely. I'm guessing it took a long time to create this. Well done!

Sam, I love your kaleidoscope! Beautiful colors and wonderful symmetry. It looks like you put lots of creativity and hard work into this piece. Congratulations!

Sam, I love your picture of Fenway Park. It's amazing how many different details you remembered. I hope you'll be able to show me the original next time we visit.

Sammy, I love this . . . it looks like Fenway Park. I recognize the wall in left field, the CITGO sign and the tall buildings all around. Nicely done!

Sam, I love this drawing! I'll be interested in your explanation of the project theme "Zentangle" and how you incorporated that in your drawing. But I love the colors, the winding pathways, and the different patterns in the black-and-white sections, all leading to your initials in the center! Well done!

Sam, this is exquisite! I love the shapes, the colors, the positioning. The bird/chicken(?) and dog(?) prints are particularly fun, but I'm also intrigued by the various circular patterns. And the SR in the center! Are all these shapes telling me something about you? I hope you'll tell me all about it the next time we visit.

I like this art a lot, Sammy! An interesting combination of what looks like water colors for the background, colored pencil or crayon for the shadows, and pen and ink for the trees. It all makes the picture very lively! Well done!

What a fun picture, Sam! I especially like the blue pointy-headed building. Looks like a whale. Great variety across all the buildings. I want to live in that city!

Sammy, this is very cool! Looks like you are working in a new medium—paper! I’m wondering if you are enjoying it. I’d love for you to show me hope you do the cutouts. It looks hard! Great work!

I love this work, Sam! The bright colors, and the patterns are very lively. I'll be interested to hear what all the designs on the flags are, and how you chose them. Nicely done!

What a gorgeous picture, Sam! I love the linear patterns and the creative colors. I hope when I see you later this month, you’ll be able to tell me how you made the choices that make this work so interesting.

Sam, I LOVE this work! Is it a painting? The moon is amazing. You have captured how it glows in the snow. And how the snowflakes look so big in the light. Very cool! And the foxes look so real. It’s kind of like they have stopped to take in the beauty of it all.

Sam, I am so impressed with this project! You can almost feel the cold and the snow! The foxes look cold, too, with their heads tucked into their shoulders. And the big white circle in the center of the piece really draws the viewer in, almost like into a whirlpool. Well done!

Sam, this is a great self-portrait! You should definitely keep it, so you can look back on it years from now and see how you saw yourself as a 6-year old. It's a great portrait, not only of your face, but I'll be interested to hear about the various objects and shapes floating around: what do they represent, and why did you pick those shapes to include in the portrait? Well done!

I love the self-portrait, Sammy! You've definitely captured your key features and I think I recognize the t-shirt. The border you created is fascinating. So many layers! I'm particularly interested in the orange row--what is that figure and why are there so many stars? Is it because Sammy is a star?

Sam, I love this picture! I think you've really captured the Warm and Cool elements, with the warm sun and sky, and the cool shadowy side of the haystacks. Your choice of colors is perfect, and very pleasing to the eye. And I like the texture you give to each of the elements -- the light and dark "brush strokes" give the picture real texture and depth. Great work!

This is such a cool piece, Sammy! I'm so impressed with your use of color and shape! Beautiful!!

Oh my goodness, Sam. This is fabulous! Everything is rounded--not a corner in the picture, which makes it soothing to look at. My first impression was of people viewing an extraordinary sun rising or setting, but I imagine the objects in the foreground are actually part of the landscape. I LOVE your choice of colors, and the concentric circles--as well as the much smaller figure in the lower right corner--makes this a fascinating piece.

Sam, you did a great job mimicking Piet Mondrian's style . . . it looks like it belongs in an art museum! Well done!
Posted 3 years ago by Grandpa

Sam, I thought this painting was done my Mondrian himself! I love how your choice of which boxes to paint and which colors to paint them is unpredictable and unexpected. It's a fun painting to contemplate.

Sammy, I love this! It’s so colorful but surprisingly it’s not the Toucan providing most of the color. It’s the sky and leaves and is that water in the background?the orange sky is fabulous. And the leaves are creatively situated. Great job!

Sam, I love this piece . . . for so many reasons! I think it's so interesting that the subject of the piece, the toucan, is mostly black while all the nature surrounding it is bright and colorful -- it actually makes the toucan stand out more! I also love that while you drew some lines inside the leaves, your colors didn't always stay inside those lines, but moved across the lines and shared sections of the leaves with other colors. And the big background sections (orange, yellow, blue and red) are not what one would generally expect. They add color and life to the picture. Very creative! Keep up the good work!

This is gorgeous, Sammy! I'm so impressed with your use of color and texture! I really love it!!!

This is a very nice collage, Sam. The subtle texture of the trees is very interesting. And the tracks in the snow add an element of wonder -- I wonder what made those tracks. It looks like a combination of tire marks and footprints. And what's that bird doing off to the right of the picture? What's the story about it? Well done, Sam, you get me thinking all the time!

This is a very nice collage, Sam! It's a good display of warm and cool colors, with a "hot" square on the right, surrounded by cool shapes that look almost like snowflakes, and a "cool" square on the left surrounded by hot colors that almost like ovens and fireplaces. Well done! Very creative!

How creative, Sam! Are there bugs in your painting?

Sam, I am so impressed with your art. This is a very beautiful and interesting painting. I love the colors, the texture, and the surprising and mysterious little images: are those bubbles floating around? Is that an animal climbing up the left-hand side of the painting? So much to look at and think about. I love it!

Those pumpkins look very ready for Halloween! Would love to know more about the purple background and black squiggly lines. Very cool look! Great work, Sam!

Sam, this is another great piece of art! I like that the pumpkins are not just orange, but have other colors mixed in, and same with the ground and the sky -- you've blended in other colors to make them all look more realistic! I think I recognize a crescent moon in the sky, but what are the black circular shapes in the sky? I like that the picture makes me think and wonder when I look at it. Great job!

I really like this collage, Sam. At first it looked like it was raining all kinds of shapes and colors, but then the big red arrow which points up makes me think the shapes have actually been tossed up in the air and are floating! Well done!

This makes me think of delicious doughnuts, Sam. Wondering if you were thinking about doughnuts. I love your use of colors.

Sam, another beautiful piece of art! You really have a good eye for color, with some great combinations. Keep up the good work!

This is so beautiful, Sam! What striking use of color and shape!

This is such an interesting work, Sam. The black figure seems to interrupt the rest of the painting and demand special attention. I love it!

Sam, I love this piece of art. It looks like a house was picked up by a tornado and is being tossed around! The dark "clouds" at the top, and the swirly lines really give the painting a menacing mood and a lot of movement. Very cool!

Very cool, Sam. This picture makes me think about how delicious apples are. I think someone really enjoyed this Apple!

I love the way the apple core is leaning. It’s like it’s alive and moving, maybe even dancing. We’ll done!
