Lukas you've given a wonderfully colorful, birdseye view of the city! What a great perspective of the Space Needle. As always I'm impressed with your skill, and see that you continue to develop your eye for color and organization. Good work by a great guy. Hugs from Peg -- Peg

Hi Honey, I really like the print - you'll have to tell me how you made it when you come visit next month. I'm so excited about you coming to Tucson. This looks like the same print in different colors - and it's really sharp. I'm proud of you in everything you do Lukas - you're such a wonderful child and I bet you've grown a lot since I saw you last year. Love you dearly, Grandma -- Janet

Lukas your picture is wonderful, as usual. It shows that you are learning lots of new techniques to use in your art work. I hope you can get this one framed and have it to remind you of how much you are growing in your ability. Keep up the good work, your fan club loves it. Lots of hugs, Peg -- Peg

To "fans" of Lukas's art: This red square is a "button blanket." Lukas's class studied Native American art, including some beautiful blankets elaborately decorated with thousands of buttons and beads. The kids then made their own mini button blankets: a large square of felt with a design based on Native American images. Lukas chose a salmon (imagine this piece of art rotated 90 degrees to the right). Lukas did all his own sewing of the buttons and beads. After he did this project, he came home and made another button blanket for his stepmother, Chris. He does good work. -- Kristina

Hi Sweetheart, Your sarcophagus drawing is really wonderful - and I just saw the buttons one as well - both excellent. You have a good eye! Did your class go to a museum to see Egyptian artifacts? How did the bike ride go at camp during your break? I spent yesterday taking down a 12 foot high cactus that just got carried away with itself! I had to use my chain saw to get the bottom - so it was partly woody and partly like using a chain saw to make slaw - what a mess - it was all over my shoes and legs too. The bottom stump was about a foot in diameter. When you're here for Thanksgiving - maybe you can draw some cactus. Have I ever taken you to the cactus nursery? We'll have to do that too. I love you dearly, Grandma -- Janet

Hi Sweetheart Grandson, Next time you come to Tucson, we'll go to a cactus nursery and I'll show you cactus that I think evolved from deep sea creatures and plants! Did you know that Tucson used to be at the bottom of a sea? Your fish and octopus are terrific - your colors are just right. I hope you will draw lots of pictures for me when you come visit because I think you have special talent. I love you very much, grandma janet

Curator's message to the "fan club": Things to look for in this picture are a puffer fish, a shark, a sea urchin, a star fish, a lighthouse, some seaweed, and an octopus (who, of course, has a "Lukas" mustache). Remember, it's an eat or be-eaten world out (down) there.
Posted 18 years ago

Lukas, you have created the perfect picture of "peace." Your lion is so true to life. And I like the addition of the rainbow -- it's a great backdrop for what this picture is about. Love, Mom.
