Paul, this is beautiful pottery with a happy face! It looks like a Grecian Urn (Keats' "Ode on a Grecian Urn"), only yours is more cheerful.

Working in a diptych format moves me to see the common place pumpkin in another more transparent view. On the right is a forbidding pumpkin that at first glance instills fear. But on the left we see the cool inner pumpkin that is at one with nature. This is work of art moves me to realize that our first impressions of pumpkins (or people) may not be accurate, and we should withhold our judgements of those around us until we get to know them.

Scientist tell us that every snowflake is unique, like the people around us. In this work I feel you have clearly explored the boundaries of the snowflake shapes. The colorful background perfectly repeats your visual statement of uniqueness as you portray all the colors of the rainbow. To me, this piece is a masterful attempt to affirm the vast possibilities in nature and in the peoples in every country.

Your use of cool and warm colors side by side added a vitality to the piece. Setting the pie piece in black made me feel that while the pie tastes good, there was something about it (orange) that made me concerned that there may be something dangerous inside that I couldn't see. I think I would not want to eat this pie after I looked closely at the pie filling. I would ask YOU to taste a piece first to prove it was a good as it looks.
