WOW! I love this design, Charlie. I can see that you successfully "wove" the colors by creating blocks of blue between the vertical blocks that contain the black stripes. I also like the outside border fringe of blue and yellow as it enhances the weave concept. I bet this was a lot of fun to design. Great work, Charlie!

Charlie, I love your birds nest. The mother bird appears to be carefully protecting the eggs that will soon hatch. I remember that you once found a birds nest outside near the downspout by your backyard deck. I'm thinking it was probably a robin's nest. Isn't it fun to check the nest every day until the birds eventually learn to fly? I'm glad you are finding unique ways to connect with nature! Great work!

Hi Charlie, I love your new piece, the magnified bug. It is very clever and shows excellent perspective! It reminds me of the huge orchid exhibit currently on display at the Botanic Garden. It is called Orchids Magnified and it features many magnifying glasses of all sizes focused on a variety of orchids. I would love to take you there so you can see it. Like your piece, it is very thoughtfully done.

Hi Charlie, I love this picture because it reminds me of the maple trees in my backyard as well as the huge forest of maple trees at River Trails. You did a great job of capturing the yellow and gold tones that the maples display at the peak of the color change season which is at the same time as your mom’s birthday. Well done!

Hi Charlie, I love your picture of outer space because it reminds me of the night that the first man actually walked on the moon. The date was July 20, 1969, I had just graduated from high school the month before. My family had gathered with friends on a Lake Michigan beach. We all looked up to the night skies to imaging what it must be like for John Glenn that night as he famously said, "that's one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind". I think that John Glenn would love your very creative ideas about outer space since he was actually out there.

Hi Charlie, I love your vase with the beautiful flowers. The shape of the vase is similar to the vase that your parents gave me when they got married and the flowers are similar to ones that I have on my dining room table today! You have a great concept of shape and colors. Great job!

Hi Charlie, of course the painting of the cardinals is my very favorite especially since I see cardinals in my feeders several times per week. But today, I would like to make a special mention of the bouquet of flowers in the pretty vase. I love your choice of colors for the flowers and also for the background and I love the shape of the vase. I learned from the description provided by your teacher that you used Elmer's Glue, oil and chalk pastels. I think that is very advanced work especially considering that you designed this picture last year when you were in First Grade! I can't wait to see what you do next!
