Fiona, I love that you delved into getting to know Van Gogh this spring and thought it was really clever you wanted to make Van Gogh's self portrait into your own self portrait. It took a lot of dedication to complete this, and I'm amazed how you applied my tutorials to create dimension with your shading and details on the facial features and texture on the furry hat, coat, and hair. You have a talent, Honey. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I know how hard you worked on this, Fiona, and how late you stayed up! I’m so proud of you for completing it and how beautiful it turned out. Your Eiffel Tower is so 3-dimensional and just glows in the gorgeous sunset you created! I know it took so many colors and so much blending to create that sunset. And I love all the reflections in the water and the gorgeous blues you used.

Wow, this dragon is amazing!! The texture of the scales must’ve taken forever, but we’re so worth it! I love the way you blended different colors across its back. The face is so detailed, and 3-D - he would make an amazing villain in a story!

I love the way the sunset, palm tree, and light house are reflecting on the water. The palm tree silhouettes are so realistic. The hot air balloon is my favorite part. The water colors are so vibrant and fun.

I know it takes a lot of stamina to work on such a big assignment, but I’m proud of you for sticking with it and it turned out beautiful! I can’t wait to display this in our home. Great job on the gradient from blue to yellow - that was a tough transition. That was a cool idea to dab the paint with the paint tube to make texture on your bush. The reflections in the water turned out awesome. Make sure to title your piece “Eiffel Tower”, since the assignment is about “Wonders of the World”.

I love how 3 dimensional your Jack o’ lantern’s face is and that you made it a kitty pumpkin just like we’ve carved many of ours! You even gave it a long twisty stem - you know I think those are cool! The little round one looks just like the little ones Farrah loves and I love that you made a uniquely shaped one, too, since they aren’t all round! Can’t wait to see it in person!

What a neat self portrait! Such a realistic nose and detailed ears! I like that you understand that your head is oval shaped under your hair rather than your hair just being on top of the oval.

I know this one was a tough one… you were really tired and it took so long to do the reflection (which was really difficult!) and to complete it, but you persevered - it is beautiful! I hope you are as proud of yourself as I am of you!

Your mind is always thinking of kitties… I bet this is what your dreams are like!

This one reminds me of a mix of two different artists’ styles - M.C. Escher, who toys with perspective and incorporates a lot of stairs into his art - and Salvador Dali, who is a Surrealist painter. He paints really fantastical, imaginative, dream-like art. Your piece shows a lot of understanding of 3-D shapes and depth - making the vine weave in and out of the holes… it’s almost like the kitty is going on a “Jack and the Beanstalk” dream-like adventure. I would have loved to have seen you flush out the whole background of this one with more detail.

Aw your fox is so cute, looking up at you with big eyes like your Ty plushes. Has a bit of “anime” style (Japanese animation or cartoon style) the way it’s outlined in black and has exaggerated eyes. It’s sitting just like Coleman sits.

Oh my gosh, I love this! I just want to blow it up huge and hang it on our wall! Please don’t crumple or fold this when you bring it home! I can come pick your art up, just let me know. The depth and perspective looking up through the trees is amazing - the way you made the trunks thicker at the bottom and the moonlight emanates from the moon. I love how the animals are hidden at the base of the trees.

You are such a talented artist, Fiona! I love that you didn’t draw your hair in cartoon-ish curls - the lines you used have such an artistic style and flow the way real hair would flow giving it dimension (make it look 3D). Your ear looks so realistic and your nose so 3-dimensional. I love this artwork because it’s of one of my very favorite people and all the things that make you unique and amazing.
