Introduction to Artsonia
from Ms. Dawn Norris
Dear Parents,

Harrison Street Elementary is teaming up with Artsonia, the world’s largest international art museum!  For new parents unfamiliar with Artsonia, it was established in 2000 as an online kid’s art museum providing free educational resources for children, families and schools to create art projects.  Artsonia integrates technology in the classroom, develops multi-cultural understanding through art and increases family involvement in children’s education.

Artwork is displayed on Artsonia by grade level and projects (or “exhibits”).  Only the child’s first name is listed along with an ID number (screen name) to ensure privacy and safety.  Screen names are an easy way to locate your child’s artwork. You will also receive a security key.  Once permission is given for your child’s work to be published, then that permission is good for as long as your child is at our school and you do not have to give it again.  If you do not give permission Artsonia will not publish your child’s artwork on the website. I receive a list of children’s names from Artsonia whose parents have not given permission. Please check the spelling of your child’s name and contact me at school if it is incorrect or you would like it changed in any way.

Family members and friends can visit the site and see your child’s art, as well as other art from children all over the world.  You can leave a message for them and even start a fan club!  If you click on their artwork it will take you to the Gift Shop where you can purchase their artwork printed on a large variety of items. The quality of purchased items has been excellent from what I have seen. Fifteen percent of all sales will come back to our art program at school.   Should you decide not to have your child involved, simply contact me and I can easily remove him/her from our school’s exhibits. However, we do spend time in class sharing their work on Artsonia and it is unfortunate to have children left out of the fun.
Also, all artwork is kept on the website indefinitely and will move up with the child as he/she moves up a grade each year!  In this way you can have a running record of your child’s artwork over the years!  Artwork can be removed at any time if you should so desire.  I hope you will visit the Artsonia website and check it and learn more about it!  Just visit www.Artsonia.com, enter our zip code, or the name of our school, or your child’s screen name to get started!  It’s easy!  Please contact me at school if you have any questions.
