from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher
Congratulations to AaronClaire, CooperCamden, Isabella, Maggie, Nathaniel, Shane, and Jeremy for receiving their Artsonia Hall of Fame Trophy.  Many other students have received virtual ribbons in their gallery too.

In order to get their Hall of Fame trophy they need 5 pieces of artwork, 5 fan club members, and 5 comments from fan club members.  The fan club members and comments must be approved by parents in orderfor them to count.

  • About two weeks ago you should have seen artwork come home with your child.  Generally, I keep artwork until a week after report cards go out and then students select their best piece of art for the art show.  We do this each of the 9 weeks.
  • When weather throws you a curve ball  - what do you do?
  • Check out Lake Prairie's Art website - for latest news, ways you can help out, online activities for your child, or student created videos!
  • If you by chance are spring cleaning and getting rid of legos, the art room is looking for some to start a couple of projects with.

  Did you know...
That if your child is creating art at home, you can upload it to Artsonia also.  There are two very easy ways to do this.
     1.  Download the Artsonia app to your iPhone, iPod or iPad device (the Android version is expected to be released in the next couple of months).  Using the app you will be able to photograph any of your child's work and upload it directly to the Artsonia website.
    2.  Photograph your child's works using a digital camera, save the image to your computer and then upload the picture to our website.

Projects that we have worked on this week:
   - Kindergarten has begun working on a winter landscape.  They are learning the term landscape, how to use shapes to make things, and what a ground line is.
   - 1st and 2nd grade have learned about the artist Piet Mondrian.  We are using this website to create art simialr to Mondrians.  He only used vertical and horizontal lines and primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) in his artwork.   Be sure to complement your favorite artist on their work!
  - 3rd grade used the iPads that we received from the Tri-Creek Education Foundation (http://t-cef.org/) to explore the collage making app, Faces iMake. We also had the chance to talk about portraiture, even if they are whimsical (funny) portraits.  Our inspiration came from the art work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Check out this very cool animation:http://vimeo.com/23958816
They also created a portrait of themselves catching snowflakes.  If I had known how much snow this great pictures would bring - I might have changed my mind.
  - 4th grade is learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and will be creating snowmen with a Van Gogh inspired sky.
  - 5th grade is creating eraser clay aliens.  They have also begun to create paper sculpture Dragon Masks.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
