International Day of Peace
from Mrs. Sakewicz-Frank
Sunday, September 21st, is the International Day of Peace. Mannington School celebrated on Friday, "planting" our pinwheels and messages of peace on the school's front lawn in a giant peace sign. Beginning ten days before Peace Day, on September 11th, we began morning announcements with a moment of silence, listened to Let There Be Peace on Earth and asked our students "Who will you make peace with?" Each morning leading up to Peace Day, peace songs filled the cafeteria before school and our students were asked to think about what peace means to them. In art class, students were asked to write sentences and illustrate their pinwheels with symbols of what peace means to them.

Take a moment this International Day of Peace and ask your son or daughter what peace means to them. I shared with my students my five year old's meaning of peace. Simply put he said, its free hugs and no stranger danger, because everyone is happy. My wish is for Peace One Day for all our children. Please stop by the computer lab during Back to School Night this Thursday, September 25th and pick up your child's pinwheel for peace.
