 | My favorite part of "A Scientist at Work" is that it displays my dream of one day pursuing a career as a scientist. Although I really do like my painting there are some parts that are my least favorite. For example, because I did not have much experience with using acrylic paint, or creating portraits, I was unable to make my portrait as detailed as I would like. My facial features were not exact to my features in real life, which is one thing in particular that I wished to improve. What inspired me to create my self-portrait was my driving force to become a scientist, a biological and medical scientist in particular. If I could create this piece of artwork again, next time I would create a better consistency of paints to work with, make the features in my portrait more proportioned and balanced, and I would perfect the variety of paint shades I used to create a more realistic effect rather than having one monotone appearance. I learned that facial structure changes your whole appearance. For example, I have a more rounded chin and my eyebrows are not very curved, these characteristics were important to the portrait. I discovered the way light plays off certain parts of your face, darker under the chin, brighter around the eyes, and there are various shades throughout your hair and skin. I was surprised I was able to paint a face, which is something I thought I would never be able to do, and that I was able to create a large scale work from a small image.written by 9248 | | My favorite part of “bubbles” was creating the pattern; my least favorite part was reading the magazine. What inspired me was the number of Islamic artworks in the magazine. What I would change is the design. I would change this because thought the pattern was too plain. What I learned while doing this project is how to do 90 degree rotational printmaking. What surprised was the mess of the ink. The steps I used to create this were 1. Draw the pattern on a piece of paper 2.copy the pattern onto a piece of foam 3. Roll ink onto the pattern 4. Turn it 90 degrees and press to make your pattern.written by 3735 | | My favorite part of this piece was adding the color print on top of the other print in my “Print Making.” Islamic Art inspired me with the geometric shapes. If I could recreate this, I’d change the patterns and stick to with only one pattern. I learned about rotational symmetry. I was surprised by how long it took to complete. First, I drew my pattern, than I copied it onto the polystyrene, than inked the pattern in black first and rotated the inking 90 degrees, then I rinsed the black ink off, then inked in color over top.
