This year I am trying a new type of fundraiser, Paint Nites, to earn funds for the extras in the artroom, such as art contest/show entry expenses, sewing machine repair, field trips, extra fine arts supplies, enrichment supplies, mural paint supplies, etc.

Paint Nite is a company that provides adult paint experiences. They provide all of the materials you need to create your masterpiece. You provide the beverage of your choice. Our Paint Nite will take place at the Mannington Grange on the corner of Compromise and Swedesbridge Roads. We will have an assortment of appetizers and desserts. Please share the link above with everyone you know and ask them to register for our first event on Nov 6th at 7pm. The cost is $45.00. A flyer went home last week, but registration must be completed online. For more information contact Mrs. Sakewicz-Frank at hsakewicz@manningtonschool.org.

Mystery Artist Project
Have you visited the Mystery Artist board by the artroom? The 2nd October Mystery Artist hint...this artist painted "The Old Guitarist" during Blue Period. Examples of the artist's work are on display with several hints under the artwork. Students are invited to fill out an entry form with their name and the name of the mystery artist and put it in the can in the artroom. One entry, with the correct answer, will be pulled on the last school day of the month by the previous month's winner. The winner will get to chose an Artsonia sketchbook with their choice of artwork on the cover.

Blue Rocks Holiday Card Design Contest
Next week students in Kindergarten through 5th grades will bring home their permission forms to enter the Wilmington Blue Rocks Holiday Card Design contest. Students will work on their entries during art class. Some students may choose to take their artwork home to complete, but must remember to return both the permission form and artwork to be entered in the contest. Please return permission forms as soon as possible to enter artwork in the contest and receive two tickets for entering.

Doodle 4 Google 2015 ~ What Makes Me...ME!

The 2015 Doodle 4 Google art contest has begun.

"
There are a million and one facts, interests, and quirks that make everyone unique. For centuries, artists have created paintings, sculptures, self-portraits, and more to offer insights into their personalities and values. Now, Google is asking kids to do the same by creating a doodle that shows the world what they're passionate about, what gets them excited, or what they dream about. In other words, Google is asking that this year's doodles explain "What makes me...me."~http://www.google.com/doodle4google/

See Mrs. Sakewicz-Frank for an entry form. Forms are due back to her before November 25th.

Just for Grade 4

Fun Things to Do Instead of Drugs

Fourth grade is working on posters for The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s Annual Design a Fourth Grade Folder Contest. Students discussed being drug free in Health class, planned and designed posters in Art class, and worked in Mrs. Ridgway-Stiles' class on their posters as part of Respect Week and Red Ribbon week. Mrs. Sakewicz-Frank will upload their artwork to Artsonia and teachers will vote for a school winner before the posters are sent out. The school winner will receive an Artsonia sketchbook with their poster design on the cover. Look for their entries on Artsonia in early November.

Just for Grade 6

Sixth grade is researching famous artists. Each student will present their chosen artist to the class and create artwork inspired by their artist.

Just for Grade 7

Seventh grade is learning about careers in art. The students will choose a career and design a poster to advertise the career. Students are already thinking about careers such as: chainsaw art, taxidermy, interior design, fashion, and sketch artist.

Just for Grade 8

Eighth grade is working on their surrealist self-portraits. When finished the students' acrylic paintings will be visual representations of their personalities.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
