I am proud to be the art teacher at Fisher Elementary. I have been teaching art here since the fall of 2004.
I earned a bachelor's degree in Art Education from Iowa State University in 1990, a master's degree in Art and Design in 2003, and was National Board Certified from 2000-2010.
I have received a few awards. In 2002 I was the first student at Iowa State to receive the Outstanding Student Teacher/Researcher Award from the College of Design while in my first year of the NAB +2 program. When I rece ... read moreived the same award in 2003, I became the first and only student to receive it twice. I was awarded the Art Educators of Iowa's Outstanding Elementary Art Teacher in 2004. At the end of that same school year, in May of 2005, my students voted for me to be receive the Optimist Club's Golden Apple Award for Specialty Services. Most recently the Art Educators of Iowa awarded me with their highest honor, the 2010-2011 Art Educator of the Year.
I have served on the board of the Art Educators of Iowa for many years. I started as the Elementary Rep in 2001. I wasn't in that position for very long before I was promoted to the Treasurer. I took office as the President-Elect in 2006, President in 2008, and I am currently serving as the Past President, the Awards Chair, and the Mentorship Co-Chair.
