News & announcements from your child's school art room. November 11, 2014
Fall 2014
from Mrs. McGill Thompson "Mrs. M.T."
On behalf of the Imagine students and myself, I would like to thank everyone who donated supplies to the Art Room.  Tissues, art supplies, books, baby wipes, and baggies are all a very big help to our classroom.  Thank you so much for your generosity!

It is hard to believe that the first quarter is already over!  We were busy assessing knowledge, learning about artists, experimenting with new techniques, and reinforcing knowledge and skills already attained.  Students created beautiful works of art and some pieces have been submitted to art contests and local art shows.  Our young artists' artwork can also be viewed on our online art gallery at
.  Permission slips are being sent home which allows their work to be viewed by family and friends.  Their artwork can be printed on cards, t-shirts, mugs, ipad cases, and more!  They would make great holiday gifts!  Visit our online gallery for more information.

Just for Kindergarten
Kindergarten artists are making collages!  We are busy drawing, cutting, and gluing! We created shape collages, pumpkins, and our favorite healthy meal.  Students are learning Art Room safety and how to properly use scissors and liquid glue.  Our young artists are engaging in creative problem solving and are creating amazing works of art.  We will soon combine painting and collage!
Just for 1st Grade
First grade artists created their favorite beautiful place drawing and a beautiful building collage. They learned about classroom safety and how to properly use scissors.  Our young artists also explored lines in art through drawing and painting.  They learned how the American artist, Jackson Pollock, used lines and paint in his works of art.  Our next lesson is "Finding Shapes" and students will create a series of collages.
Just for 2nd Grade
Our artists in the second grade, learned about the artist Henri Matisse and his love of lines and shapes.  Students were inspired by his work and created self portraits in his style.  We are currently exploring the use of line in art and working diligently on our camouflage line lizards. Students are creating habitats and lizards using lines and color. Their designs are fantastic!  Our next learning adventure is "Seeing Color in Nature."  We will begin painting!
Just for 3rd Grade
Third grade artists just completed self portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo.  They learned how to mix colors to make secondary and tertiary colors as well as how to use watercolor pencils.  They had a great time!  Their self portraits will be coming home soon.  Next students will learn about symmetry and create a portrait of their classmate.
Just for 4th Grade
Artists in the fourth grade have been drawing from observation.  They have drawn themselves, their classmates, and have created a wire figure that suggests movement. Young artists have also reflected on the art making process and the outcome of their work and wrote critiques and artist statements.  We will continue our Unit:  Looking at Our World by examining colors.  We will be painting for the next few weeks.  Yea!
Just for 5th Grade
Fifth grade artists learned about the artwork and life of Mexican artist Diego Rivera.  They studied his life and his murals, critiqued his artwork, and created a timeline that identified five important events in his life.  Students designed their own murals that reflected school life at Imagine.  Next we will begin the Unit:  Looking at Our World and practice looking closely at shape, proportion, and color in order to draw from observation.  Our first lesson will be drawing portraits.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
