Hi, Luka. Wow, this is a different one for me! I am always so interested in learning about new artists through your art classes. Once I read about Sandra Silberzweig I could understand your portrait much better. Is the white part of the left eye a pupil or tear? or? I am curious if any of the shapes refer to specific things or they are just designs you had in your imagination and put them on paper? I love you, Luka Elllis. xxx

Luka, I tried to buy notecards of this beautiful heart, but the way they would print out cut off too much of the heart shape. Anyway, I enjoy looking at your work on line and learning about the techniques and ideas behind the art and artists. I like how the orange color blurs into the turquoise gradually and then the contrast of the sharp mountain points in the sunrise? or Northern Lights? Stars are amazing. A lovely piece. xxx

Hi, Luka. After you described this artwork to me during our FaceTime, I was eager to see it. What a concept--a tope map into a portrait! I especially like how you "wrote" the word below, surely a perfect adjective for MLK. Also, you know that your Momma has been a significant activist for years, and you've been with her many times! Keep up the GREAT work, Luka.

Hi, Luka. What a unique art lesson about crystals! When I first looked at your drawing on my phone, I wasn't sure what the items were, but once I saw it on my computer and read about the lesson, it was exactly what you drew! I like the way you made the crystals sparkle with the little lines and also how you buried them in--columns? blue containers? not sure what they are. Plus what are the little spots on the "containers"? You've created some very real perspectives and differing depths with each one. Great job! xxxx

Hi, Luka. At first I was not sure what this picture was all about, and then after I read the teacher's assignment, it was very clear to me. You have done an excellent job of dividing up the land spaces with practical shapes the areas are used for, like farming. I will never fly over the midwestern and western United States again without thinking of your picture. Especially the huge planted circles in Colorado! I also like the way you divided up the colors you used, making the picture interesting and lovely to look at. I imagine you have a crop picked out for every section? Let's talk about it when I come to your house SOON! Much love,

Hi Luka, Interesting drawing. Liked especially the depth images of the mountains...3D like! I'm cold just looking at the tent and wondering who might be freezing in it! Nice image of snowy mountains. Good work. Love you and your art.

As you probably know, Luka, I commented on all of your mountainscapes in my last message. They are marvelous! xxx

Hi, Luka. Wow, I really enjoyed your latest art work when you learned about Jen Aranyl and her mountainscapes. And you did THREE! The first one posed several questions for me: what inspired the little bit of reddish color on the left side of your sky? And, it’s sort of a mountain within a mountain? Is that the shape of a turtle behind and, if so, what does that mean? A constellation maybe? And it looks like a very cold camping trip! The next one in the shape of a heart it beautiful with the multi-orange burst and beautiful colors in the sky. I like it alot. The oval one is wonderful, too. The way your water colors blend with each other is so realistic and pretty. Plus I see your little tent ready for a sleep over! The mountains are rugged, austere, and with the cross lines, give good perspective. I think you’ve traveled in mountains alot to be able to draw them so well! Lots of roads, too… Great job, Luka. Much love forever,

Hi, Luka. Oh my, you have been drawing your own personal maps for years! This must have been an easy assignment for you and probably fun as it was "work" this time? It's cool that you labeled things with your own ideas and desires and included many intricate details. What exactly is the white triangular items towards the left side? When we are at your house, if you don't have this map in hand, we can look it up on line and you can tell me all about it. It's exciting and so interesting to see your art work, Sweetie. Love and many hugs,

Hi, Luka. Wow, you created a tope map! They are very interesting to study when you're wondering about a new place to go, and they can provide alot of information. Your island is charming in its colors, and I will be eager to see it up close someday and understand better the different heights. Can we go to this island with you?

Hello, darling Luka. Wow, what a picture this is! At first I was somewhat concerned as the person startled me, but then I looked closely at the left side and saw all sorts of LUKA THINGS! It's an amazing portrait of you and who are are, and I am really impressed with the detail. I like how the skiing has a long slope to zoom down. Sometime, I guess after school is out and you get the pictures back, we can talk about each revealing activity. Wonderful, Luka, and I love you. xxx

Hi, Luka. These sweet little birds look so much like ones in our trees in winter time. Your proportions are well done, and the birds look hungry which they always are! Nice job. Much love,

Hi, Luka. I don't know when you created this collage, but I just saw it, and it's WONDERFUL! I love how you integrated your photo and hair with the magazine print. Ice cream--hummm? let's see, wonder that that means! Animals, your polar fav, waffles, rockets, space. Seems you included major parts of your life and interests in a very artful way. Please save the piece so I can look at it in person when I come to your home. Love you,

Hi, Luka. I realize school is all over for the year, but I just received this picture of the mask you created. In reading about it, the teacher mentioned that upcycling was part of the discussions you had about making them. Well, you are The Major Up-cycler! You've been designing and building creations with every kind of cardboard and plastic since forever! I'm very proud not only of your design, creation, and artistic capabilities but also your knowledge and keen understanding of the importance of recycling--in lots of different ways. This artwork is a real beauty! Much love,

Hi, Luka. Another amazing and interesting and wonderfully crafted art piece from you! These tornadoes look fabulous. The way you've shaded the colors and created white space is very sophisticated, and I am so impressed with each of the shapes. It is great your art projects coordinate with things you're learning in other subjects. Finding art everywhere--even in scary stuff. Much love and see you soon,

Hi, Luka. It was fun to see you last night and talk for a little bit about the dream catcher you created. It is beautiful and so well done. The design is intricate and has wonderfully detailed parts and pieces. Even the feathers look real! I like this creation much better as a dream catcher than as art on your hands and arms. Love you,

Hi, Luka. This great looking animal you created in an Aboriginal art style is impressive. You've captured the dots of color perfectly. It reminds Grandpa and me of the many art pieces we saw in Australia. Don't you have a pencil case we brought you with this kind of artwork? Love you much!

Hi, Luka. Yes, I have an inquiry: what was this lesson about and what is this a picture of? I am eager to talk with you about it and soon we'll have that chance! It is interesting, colorful, planned, and I know has an explanation from you! Love you and see you in a couple of days.

Hi, Luka. How wonderful to see Joshua Trees again! Your picture so reminded me of our great trip to see them and walk among them. They are such amazing structures, aren't they, and you captured them well. I think your sunset is really lovely and includes all the many different shades that this time of day can bring to us. Nice work. Love,

Luka, that is one serious eagle! You did such a great job with proportions and shading. The beak is awesome and real! How did you make the red and white stripes? And I see one star peaking out. Did you create the feathers with pencil on top to look more realistic? Excellent!

Fabulous art, Luka! You know what strikes the hearts of your Momma and your Gran! I am ordering some stationery or postcards of this because it is so special, powerful, and yours! Love you.

Hi, Luka. What a terrific picture of a person with his/her colorful mask on! Is that you? Even though it's one of AEA's shirts, it doesn't look like one of yours? Perhaps this is a friend in your class? You've been drawing people for a long time, and your skill with proportions and facial expressions (through the eyes since the mask covers alot of the face) is excellent! I love you.

Hi, Luka. What a fabulous garden picture you drew! I have studied is for quite a while and each time I look, I see more details. The ants, spiders, a caterpillar, a snail, butterflies--wow, you included so many things! Also a spider's web and cocoon. And then there are the vegetables--carrot, potatoes, turnip (?), and beet. I even saw little thin root threads on the carrot and turnip. And all the different leaves above the ground are drawn beautifully. Wow, what detailed and excellent work, Luka. Did your teacher talk alot about gardens in class? You are surely learning important information about where our food comes from. I love you, Great Gardner.

Hi, Luka. What a fine looking Blue Dog! Did you study about George Rodrigue who painted blue dogs in New Orleans? Grandpa and I have seen many of his blue dog paintings when we were in that city, and I'm sure someday you'll go there, too. It'll be fun to recognize an old friend. Did you use artistic license to make the blue dog green? Or perhaps this is something else entirely! Love,

Dear Luka. This drawing is very unique and beautiful. In fact, Grandpa liked it so much he bought some notecards that have this picture on them! I like the color combinations and the various shapes. I hope you can tell me about the art and the artist when we together next month. I love you.

Hi, Luka. Because of the pretty heart you painted, Grandpa and I now know about Jim Dine! We had never heard of him before and looked up pictures of his hearts and learned about him. Thanks for teaching us about art! We like your heart very much. Hugs,

Dearest Luka. Your trees are excellent! Each season is beautifully represented, and the snow one looks like trees in our back yard. I like the snow picture very much. Spring, summer, and fall are very nice composed and have the colors that trees produce when the weather and light change. Also, with summer and fall, the leave do fall, and you've also show that. Great work! I love you,

Luka, this is BEAUTIFUL! The rain and wet puddles you're standing in are wonderfully created, and you are holding a rainbow umbrella that's keeping you dry in all this water. Also, there is a beautiful rainbow that we were just talking about and looking at on Grandpa this morning. Wonderful art project and so glad you can share it with me. I love you, darling,

Hi, dear Luka. What a beautiful dish! Your Momma made one of those when she was very young, and we still have it in our house! I am sure yours will last long, too, and bring much pleasure to your family. How did you get the colors in the clay? I love you,
