We are already off to an exciting start to the year in our Art Room. We have been busy drawing, coloring, cutting, and painting!

Once again, I will be posting many of our art projects on Artsonia, which not only lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the artroom through customized keepsakes.
Keep an eye out for a slip of paper reminding you of your child's screenname and security key. The slip should be going home the week of October 13th.
Upcoming Dates to look forward to:
November 25th & 26th Fall Gallery Walk - Lakeview's halls and media center will be adorned with K-4th grade artworks. Please take a look at our students' art accomplishments before or after your parent/teacher conference. I hope to have at least 1 artwork on display for each grade level.
I look forward to working with your children and am always impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year.

Just for New Families
For families new to Solon, Artsonia is a web-based digital art gallery. This site celebrates the achievements of young artists from around the world. I use the site as a digital portfolio, where I can assess your child's artistic growth from K-4th grades. There are many cool features to Artsonia, including a link where your child can write an artist statement. Families from out of town can see your child's work, and even send a positive message about their art online. Please see Lakeview's Artsonia site at: www.artsonia.com/lakeview15
If you are a new family to Solon, and your child already has an Artsonia account from their previous school, I would be happy to merge the two accounts. Please send me an email with your child's previous screenname and last school attended. My email is: jmeier@solon.k12.ia.us

Just for Kindergarten
A special welcome to all our new families! In Kindergarten, we keep things simple, have lots of fun, get a little messy, and do our best to learn the basics about colors, shapes and how we can find art all around us. This month, we will spend time learning about shapes and textures. Also, since many of you will be learning about the Artsonia gallery for the first time this year, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you need information on your child's gallery.
