About this School Project (Mondrian Shapes)
Students were introduced to the artwork of Piet Mondrian. This Dutch artist was a master at using straight lines and primary colored shapes to create abstract or non-representational artwork. They were inspired by his work and created their own version. The students used cut squares to create their own primary colored design. Students made choices about placement (composition) and shapes that they used in the artwork. Proper gluing techniques were shown and practiced. Students created black linesusing cut cardboard as a stamp dipped in black paint. They were to decide where to add theblack accent lines and fine motor skills were used to control the stamping.
