	Marilyn Peters I am a NBCT Art teacher at Washington County High School in Springfield, KY and a Sheltowee Guild Fiber Artisan. I was selected as the 2011 KyAEA High School Art Teacher of the Year and my work, Matilyn Grace, was awarded 2nd place 2D Design work in the 2011 KyAEA Member Exhibit. I am currently serving KyAEA as President-Elect for KY. I have been teaching art for the past 18 years at WCHS but for many years did not really consider myself an artist. There were few art teachers in my life as a child and only ... read morea dear aunt as an art role model so I had little encouragement beyond my family to consider myself as an artist. I have since come to realize that "artist" is part of my identity, not just part of my profession. As an art teacher I try to instill in all my students an appreciation for art and encourage them to reach their full potential as student artists. When I shared with a dear friend that I was feeling the calling to explore the artist in me beyond my teaching role, she stated, “You were an artist long before you were a teacher.” I found that when I began working more as an artist I became a better art teacher. I enjoy painting, drawing and photography. As an artisan I exhibit my work at craft fairs under the business name Willing Hands Art. I consider my artistic talent a gift from God and as such I wish to always glorify Him with my talent. Send compliment
