Anita Coon
Biography: In 1975 Anita Coon received a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Art Education and Music Education from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA. She taught art in the Schaller-Crestland high School in Early, IA, for 23 years. During this time she attended Mankato State University, Mankato, MN, earning a Master of Arts degree in Studio Art in 1992. As a lecturer, Ms. Coon has been a presenter at the National Art Educator's Conference in San Francisco (1996), CA, and Phoenix (1992) AZ, and at the Duo State Convention in Omaha, NE (1981). In 1994 she won the Outstanding Secondary Art Educator of Iowa Award. She received technical assistance grants from the Iowa Arts Council in 1999 and 2000.
Ms. Coon has worked with several series of work in which central themes are explored and expanded: Treescapes 2000-2005), Electric Monkey Series (1999-2000), and The Bicycle Series (1986-2001). Her paintings have won numerous honors and have been shown throughout the Midwest in various group and solo exhibitions. Some of her exhibitions include: Bloomington Art Center, Bloomington, MN; Nobles County Art Center, Worthington, MN; Conkling Gallery, Mankato State University, Mankato, MN; The Heritage Gallery and The 5th Street Gallery, Des Moines, IA; Octagon Center for the Arts, Ames, IA; The Gallery on Main, Clear Lake, IA; Witter Gallery and Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, IA; Arts on Grand, Spencer, IA; Sanford Museum, Cherokee, IA; Isaac Lincoln Gallery, Northern State University, Aberdeen, SD. ARC Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Union Street Gallery, Chicago Heights, IL. Many of her paintings are in public and private collections in California, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and the Midwest.
