Lori A. Rinken Artist Bio
“From an early age, I have always known I was an artist. I felt like I saw things differently, experienced a freshness that others seemed to miss, and looked at the world as a big picture to be documented and unfolded one sketch at a time.” In this class, I have discovered fervor to create from the eyes of a painter. I enjoy the new found application of color and the flexibility of painting in such a way that I will continue to paint. Work Experience: I bring to the classr ... read moreoom the Knowledge of “real-world” art experience. I worked as a freelance Illustrator and Children’s book designer before entering the world of teaching for several years. This has been useful in helping students develop portfolios, understand the importance of prompt deadlines, and understanding that each Artist has an inert, personal style and signature in their art. I am also a practicing Artist, and work commissions on Portraits, Murals, Caricatures, and Book Illustrations. I have currently written and Illustrated three children’s books, awaiting publication. I am accomplished in the areas of pen and ink, watercolor, scratchboard, charcoal, and acrylic painting. My work has been exhibited at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and The Coastal Carolina Fair.
Statement of Philosophy: From the time that I could hold a pencil, I knew that Art was in my future. With supporting parents and a blessing of talent and understanding, I knew profoundly that it was my place in life. When I added middle school children to the mix, it was more fun than expected… my room is the only one where a huge pile of mess and clutter means a wonderful learning experience is occurring. Man, I love this job! . Pablo Picasso once wrote, “I have never met a five-year old that wasn’t going to be an Artist, but seldom do they remember into adulthood the means to create”. My goal at the end of each day is to hope that some masterpiece seen, some technique mastered, some way that a color grabbed an imagination, is absorbed by a student and will be taken into adulthood and built upon.
I am very excited about teaching your children this year. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I expect to have a wonderful year adapting the working classroom to the Chromebooks and Sketchpad 3.5. Technology integrated into Visual art will be a great way to prepare your child for the future. Thank you for reading, Lori A. Rinken Visual Arts teacher
