“Creativity is experimenting, growing, taking risks, making mistakes, and having fun.” -Mary Lou Cook
I graduated from McNeese State University in 2001 with a BA in Visual Art, concentrating in Graphic Design. After working as a graphic artist for 3 years, I went back to school and became certified to teach Art (K-12) in 2005 and Talented Art in 2009. I am also a Talented Art evaluator for the State of Louisiana. This summer I will attend Rice University (online due to Covid-19) where I will be trained ... read more to teach AP Art & Design- I am very excited about this opportunity!
I have taught Pre-K through 12th grade Art in both Calcasieu and Cameron parishes for the past 15 years- the last two have been at Lake Charles Boston Academy teaching Talented Art.
I am married to Stephen, a rancher and commercial fisherman, and I am “Ma” to 4 really neat kids- Skylar (20), Maddy Grayce (18), Cole Jackson (13) and Tucker Gage (8).
When I’m not at school, I enjoy fashion design, coming up with wild ideas & figuring out how to make them happen, spending hours at the ball field, playing in my flower beds & garden, cheering on my children at all of their activities, and loving on my two dogs, Otis (schnauzer) & Rico (lab).
I am my students’ biggest fan and loudest cheerleader as I watch them grow from anxious "newbies" their first days in the Talented Art Program, into confident and influential artist and leaders as they move on to high school! I am here to encourage and inspire your children to DREAM BIG, to find the GREATNESS within themselves, to NEVER GIVE UP and to assure them that they can ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING with hard work and determination.
