Meet the Teachers at Karns City High School (Karns City, Pennsylvania)

Hello and thank you for taking interest in the young artists at Karns City High School. I am very blessed to have the opportunity to work each day with talented and inspiring artists.

I began my journey where I have settled by attending Karns City School District for elementary and high school. I had the pleasure of learning from Mrs. Berteotti who encouraged me to attend Edinboro University to become an art teacher. While at EUP seeking a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, I decided to also obtain ... read more a Bachelor's in Elementary Education in fear the arts would lose an ongoing battle with the improvement of academics.

I graduated with both degrees and started working in Erie, Pa at a private preschool teaching Pre-K art classes by incorporating art into all of subjects. My experience at the South Hills Child Development Center proved to me how important the arts are and how they can enhance learning in all subjects by educating the whole child.

My fiance, Ben, was accepted to Clemson University for a Master's program. We left Erie and moved to Clemson in 2008. I was hired as an elementary art teacher for Greenville County School District and taught art to urban students in grades K-5. This valuable experience helped me to understand challenges of teaching art to a variety of demographics including many students with English as a second language.

Ben graduated in 2010 and we decided to move back home to Pennsylvania to marry and start a family. I began a Master's program through Edinboro for Art Education. In January of 2011 I was blessed once again to find myself walking through the doors of my old elementary schools to teach students from my hometown. I finished my Master's program in 2012, graduating the week before we married. I taught at the elementary buildings until 2015 when I moved to the High School. I can't express how proud I am to serve our community to encourage and strengthen the arts in our students. I have an amazing career and love waking up every day to watch the young minds at KC explode with creativity.

Outside of school I enjoy all of the family time I can get. My husband and I have two amazing, growing boys. We love to go camping and be outdoors whenever we can and keep ourselves very busy with our large extended families and friends. If I get a chance, I enjoy making fused glass jewelry and reading.

I hope to continue to encourage the arts in our community and beyond and teach our students to be hard workers to achieve a meaningful and creative life that they love. I appreciate your encouragement and advocacy in our art and program at KC and hope you enjoy the beautiful art and minds in our schools as much as I do.
