When I was five years old my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. A question asked of many children each year with fantasy jobs as astronauts, dancers, or circus clowns. But, unlike many children I was a determined youth with my mind made up! I wanted to be a famous artist and an art teacher. My students laugh and giggle saying I have gotten the order a bit confused since I am a famous art teacher and an artist. They are right, I was recently recognized as the NAEA Southeastern Middle School ... read moreArt Educator of the Year for 2006 which is a flattering honor from my peers. Perhaps my success has been more in my art teaching than in my own art work but in the end I think it is much more important a mark to make on the world. I have told my students that in reality if I encourage them to be artists, creative individuals or just an appreciator of the arts then I have reached more lives and hearts than if I just showed my art in museums in my life time. Promoting the great potential of the arts is a great passion of mine. My students are my inspiration every day when I see them develop a new skill, see pride in their work, and find joy in creating! Enjoy the great masterpieces of my students... I am quite proud of their hardwork and continued effort to to their best!
