Hello friends! Thank you for visiting Bradley Creek's Art Galley. I have been at Bradley Creek for over 14 years now, with 24 year of teaching finished but certainly not finished yet. I began my love of art in PA where I grew up outside of Philadelphia, GO EAGLES! I attended Lycoming Collage and then moved to NC in 1998.
I know you will enjoy our students art. I hope you feel the pure joy and pride that was pored into the creation of these works. There is so much more to them than what you see at ... read more first glance. Beyond the medium techniques and skill development, our students learn about the Elements of Art: line, shape, space, color, texture, form and value. And Principles of Design: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity/variety.
Yes! This IS K-5! It is exciting to hear and see their understanding of these important building blocks of artistic thinking. We explore, infer, discuss, share and so, so much more. For our families, I hope their art vocabularies surprise you! Ask them about their process, or what type of art they made. (still life, landscape..) Ask them to tell you about one of the Elements you notice. They certainly love to share their thoughts. Just letting them tell you about their art builds their confidence, I thank you in advance for that. Lastly, in art classes our students develop life skills not measured by worksheets or quizzes. They learn to be brave, willing to trust and try new things. They learn to compromise, share, communicate, collaborate, and to be kind with both their word and actions. They learn to endure through doubt and insecurities; to persevere even when the work is difficult. They learn to be receptive and respectful of both commonalities and differences' of their peers, people, places, and cultures from all over the world.
