I have been teaching for over 20 years and choice art for about 10 years. Student work is more authentic because the ideas are their own. We still work on skills and I share different ideas for projects, but ultimately, the students are artists and the classroom is their studio.
I enjoy the fresh ideas that accompany middle school student minds. They are in a stage of transition to adulthood and art is a great way for them to express what is important to them! Please encourage your child to continue to explore in art, ask them questions about their ideas or what materials they are using. I find each conversation can have an entire story behind it and their learning shines through! |
