Patricia Graves
This is my first year teaching art for pre-k at Bergen Family Center, in Englewood, New Jersey. Here at Bergen Family Center, we believe in the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching. Some of our beliefs are that children are strong, rich and capable. All children have the potential, curiosity and interest in constructing their learning. We see the children as protagonists, collaborators, and communicators. The teachers in this program are partners, nurturers, guides and researchers. The parents are also looked at as partners. With this approach to teaching, we also believe that the environment is used as a third teacher. "The design and use of space encourage encounters, communication, and relationships (Gandini, 1993)."
