Maya Ife'
Since conception Maya Ife's mother made sure she was surrrounded by the best that the arts had to offer. From music to fine arts and fine cuisine. A child born of two Vietnam Era United States Military Veterans and Civil Rights Activists, Maya was raised in an atmosphere of cultural and historical awareness. Maya Ife' pursued her own art work through childhood and political activism as a teenager at Fashion Industries High School. There she studied Fashion, Merchandising and (unofficially) social science ... read moreinpired from her politically/historically enriched background. After a tragic and painful transition into adulthood Maya became interested in spiritual studies, eventually leading her to one of her permanent ancestrial homes among the Green Mountain Aniyunwiwa/Cherokee of the north east at the Sunray Meditation Society. Her studies in philosophy, metaphysics and theory, quantum physics, general science and ministry only served to further deepen her commitment to Art and Fashion. Within the non stop riveting action and drama, Maya was married and gave birth to her daughter Dhyani Ife' Rodriguez, whom she named after her spiritual mother and guardian Dhyani Ywahoo. Maya then received training in Early Childhood Education and opened a Summer Day School called The Beauty Path. As time unfolded Maya became aware of the connections between art and science. In fact she found that they are inseparable and that the learning process could be enhanced, even expidited through art. Maya then continued the study of Fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Maya Ife' is now the owner of the female empowering Karma Couture Fashion and Life accessories Company and designed costumes for PBS series Mr. Rogers Nieghborhood and the like. Karma Couture addresses the advanced aesthetic and energetic needs of the modern woman and female child with thought to future generations as taught by the Cherokee elders. All designs are based on the clients state of mind, body type, world view, cultural background, spiritual affiliations and personal aspirations. The reason for this is to (since art is communication) communicate a purposeful and accurate message to the self and the observing world because no one wants to be uncomfortable in their clothes or in their life and no one wants to live in an ugly world. The many helpful items from Karma Couture artisan Maya Ife' address these human issues and goals as well as others in effect to heal the wearer and/or participant of any imbalances through various methods of graceful ease. The force comes from a persons dedicated willingness to see their aspirations achieved. Most of the work is done from the inside out hence the Karma Couture catch phrase "fashioning the spirit". Maya has since added arts classes for all ages to her long line of life balancing and skill building tools which led her to The Girl Scouts of Greater NY in late 2005. She currently enjoys teaching Art Sciences. Her research as an instructor and goal to give each girl an artistic skill that can lead to financial and social self sufficiency(problem solving/conflict resolution) well before adulthood, lead her to Artsonia. Please enjoy all of the students' work. When you are looking at a work form one of our Art Scientists you are looking at a more beautiful world.
