Kevin McDowell
Kevin E. McDowell, a naturally gifted artist, has been drawing since the age of five. He has received his BFA in 1988 from the School of Visual Arts in New York. However, he had not yet come out on to the art scene until 1990. Before his exposure Mr McDowell has freelanced in the industry as an artist. He has assisted well accomplished artist Bill Charmatz with illustrated presentations for the accounting firm PRICE WATERHOUSE in 1985 and assisted designers at CORPORATE ANNUAL REPORTS in 1986. Kevin's versa ... read moretile experience landed him a position as a production assistant in 1987 for Alvin H. Perlmutter, producer of the Emmy Award winning show ADAM SMITHS' MONEY WORLD for PBS Television in New York. With accomplishments in the industry one factor had lingered in the mind of this artist like many others and that was the lacking opportunities for free creative expression. Especially from a Nubian cultural perspective His debut as an artist was at the Black Expo in New York in 1990 where Kevin has gone by the artist name (KEM) and has premiered his art work in the form of buttons and wearable art sportswear. Kevin then realized that there was a market for his work with its style of vivid colors and animated expressions. In 1992, he attended the Print shop of master printer Bob Blackburn, where he studied the basics of lithography and block printing. Kem has done well with Gallery showcases in the south particularly in the state of Georgia where Kem had resided for five years and has recently relocated back to his home town of Brooklyn New York. Kems' future plans include opening his own gallery, completing his independent animated film project that is currently in production and to continue his plan as an art instructor.
