Aminah Robinson Found Art Collage

Students heard about the life and artwork of Aminah Robinson. Aminah Robinson is an American artist from Columbus, Ohio. She is recognized for her mix media artwork which she calls "found art." Aminah uses any materials she can find to make her creations. Aminah even made up names for for her different art work materials such as "hog mog" sculptures and "rag gon non" for her paintings on fabric. Many of Aminah's famous works of art are fabric collages made with sewn on "found art" objects. You might see buttons, beads, and even sea shells woven into her collage paintings. Community and culture was very important to Aminah. The subjects of her artwork were typically the people and places she encountered in everyday life. She explains that she wants "to give voice" to these people and preserve them in her artwork so they are remembered forever. For their art project, students planned to create a picture to represent a community they personally belong to or a family tradition. They used Google Drawings to search "found art" objects that they could arrange to create important objects within their collage. They used the crop tool to make everything in their picture and included an image with a background, middle ground, and foreground area.
