From exhibit "Saltwater Jungles"
by Ashlynn15 (Art ID #506379)
from Richfield K8 School— Kindergarten
United States
The students and I began by discussing the jungle environment and how it differs from most of the United States. Looking at animals and plants we discussed what shapes are used to draw such things as elephants and plantlife. With our drawings completed in crayon the students begn to paint in shapes with watercolor. With a single shape painted the students would stop and sprinkle salt on the area just painted. The salt than soaks up the available moisture and leaves behind a pattern. In some areas the salt adheres to the paper and creates a glistening effect. The students had fun combining the arts and sciences. It also allowed for a greater focus on the watercolor in terms of how much water and color you have on a brush.
