I was surprised to see your new artwork because I didn't know that you were taking art classes again. Hope you are enjoying it! I love the different lettering you used in writing and the bright colors as background for the different descriptions of yourself that you chose. I look forward to viewing more of your pieces! XOX JJ

CAROLINE'S ARTIST STATEMENT The assignment was to create a graphic picture with 10 objects that mean a lot to you. I didn't love this project as much as others. I have 11 things in my picture and they are: my dad, my mom, my sister, me, a hot dog, a heart with a page of writing on it, a rose for my middle name, a flaming C for the first letter of my first name, a balloon because I love drawing and a balloon is my favorite thing to draw, a dress because I'm so fancy, and a book because I love to read. Something really interesting about this art work is that near the hot dog and the heart there is a line and a dark circle. I wrote "yummy" there but my teacher said no writing so I had to cover it up with dark green. One thing you might not notice is that Ms. Weiss, the art teacher, told us that everything had to be touching and I made the flaming C have green fire coming out of it and that's also the leaves for the rose so it's like a 2-in-1. I used pencil, Sharpies, water color paint, and paper to make this art. The thing that I really enjoyed is that you get to show people what you really love. When I was drawing this, I thought of my family because these are things that they find unique about me.

Caroline, I cannot wait to here about this painting. It is titled "About Me" so I am very curious about your statement. It is very creative and I really enjoy the pastel-like colors. When I look at it, I see 4 people. Is that your family? I think I also see a hotdog, a rose, a heart, a balloon, and other objects. And those things really do remind me of the things you like. I enjoy your artwork very much...xoxoxo Nonie

Hi Caroline, What an interesting piece of work, "About Me." The cirucular flow suggests to me progression, and I think you've represented yourself as a baby, then young child, now growing up, with different colored clothes or robes to represent the different stages. I see you smiling, hiding, with a serious expression, with a big heart and a Rose. There are balloons and a card with writing within the heart - perhaps indicating your love of sending art cards to people (which I love to receive)! I don't know if anything I am seeing is what you intended, but I'd love to hear what your intention is with this piece! I am not sure if there is a red table with place settings and a big yellow cup to the right. Is the orange figure with blue stripe down the center, you now?? Will love to hear about this!! CAROLINE'S ARTIST STATEMENT: I worked so hard on this art piece because instead of making a normal town I had to think about how a suburban town would look.I didn't use a lot of vibrant colors this time. It was a little disappointing because I love such bright colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caroline, What an incredibly detailed piece of artwork! Sort of reminds me a little of your neighborhood with the sidewalks, the school, the houses, the flowers, the people, the green grass. A wonderful place to live. I love the blue sky with just a few clouds, but with the sun shining bright. I think it is a suburban neighborhood. Am I correct? I would love to hear more about this piece. I cannot wait for your statement...xoxo Nonie

Caroline, I love your interpretation of "Urban, Surburban, Rural". The colors are so bright and there are so many interesting details. Plus the angle of your viewpoint , the perspective, is very interesting -- everything fits so well and doesn't look smooshed together. I think your artwork looks very "alive" !

My immediate reaction when I saw your cityscape: I would like to live in a neighborhood like this that is so quirky and full of bright, vibrant colors. I hope that you have had a chance to make a cupcake building and decorate it in your very original style. Grand Mom

Hi Caroline!! Your cityscapes piece is delightful to look at - so colorful and expressive! The character of the different buildings as you present them are distinct (different from one another) and full of surprising details such as blue sunglasses, pink teeth, multi-colored faces and multi shaped eyes. The feelings the buildings portray are also varied - some look nice but others look a bit scary. The use of the foreground, middle ground and background works perfectly. It seems to me that you've used the shape and size of the buildings to work through this technical exercise. I love the pumpkn (or what I think is a pumpkin) sitting on top of a building and the grey clouds (I think they are clouds) which add a bit of darkness to the scene. I love this piece and am impressed with how you've developed your original expressive talents!!! MUCH LOVE AND MANY HUGS, JJ

Hi Caroline, I was not at all familiar with James Rizzi so I looked him up on the internet. I was just amazed at how similar your piece of art is to the work that James Rizzi did. Your cityscape is terrific! I love the colors and the facial expressions on your buildings. It is a very detailed and intricate work of art. I just love looking at it. Plus, I notice something new every time I explore it. It's a wonderful piece Caroline. Keep up the great work! xoxo

CAROLINE'S ARTIST STATEMENT: The assignment was to make a city scape with lots of colors and expressions. You also had to show foreground, middleground, and background. We were inspired by James Rizzi's artwork. I liked that I could use my imagination for the faces and not have to follow a lot of instructions. If I could do it again, I would like to make something on the buildings besides faces, like a cupcake building. But that wasn't the assignment.

CAROLINE'S ARTIST STATEMENT The assignment was to make a city scape that had many colors and expressions. It had to also have foreground, middleground and background. We learned how to overlap and we got inspired by James Rizzi's artwork. I liked that we got to use our imagination and we didn't have to follow a lot of instructions for what we had to draw on the buildings. If I could do it again, I would like to make other things besides faces on buildings, like a cupcake building. But that wasn't the assignment.

Caroline's Artist Statement The assignment was to do a self-portrait but to mix up your face in the style of Picasso. In my picture is a lot of different colors. I love my picture. I used water color paint, a paint brush, a pencil and an eraser. Step 1: I picked the shape of my eyes. Step 2: I picked the shape of my nose. Step 3: I picked the shape of my mouth. Step 4: I picked my paper out. Step 5: I drew my face in pencil. Step 6: I outlined in Sharpie. Step 7: I erased the pencil underneath. Step 8: I painted. Step 9: I wrote about my artwork.

Caroline's Artist Statement: First I traced the letter C. Then I made the pictures. And I outlined every thing with a Sharpie. We are going to put these on the folders where we keep our art work. And that's how you make a letter.
- on October 20, 2015
Love, love, love your "Initial Artwork".Your "C" is perfectly centered and the colors you picked to decorate it are beautiful. I especially loved the block with your family. As you know, my name also starts with a "C" so I feel a special connection to this piece. Great job Caroline!!! Love, Nonie XO

Dear Caroline, When I first looked at your design, I didn't read the title and didn't see immediately that it was the letter "c". I thought it was a field surrounded by signs. A soccer field! I had fun looking at the different sections of the "C" that you drew in different themes. I like the left side where one section seems to flow into the other with continuing shapes and colors. I loved the section with what I think is a drawing of a Rose - your middle name and then the others with happy faces and art supplies. I also like the symmetrical scalloped edges on either side of the "gap". Well I am glad to see you are as creative as ever and doing interesting work in school!! I look forward to seeing more of your art work throughout the year! I love you very much! Auntie JJ

Hi Caroline - I really love this hummingbird!!! It is so colorful :) I also like how you added the beautiful sky and clouds and trees. CAROLINE'S ARTIST STATEMENT This is a collage and it is a picture of a hummingbird. The assignment was to create art like Eric Carle. He was old and in pain when he did his art. I used a piece of turquoise paper for the bottom and then I made the other paper by painting it with different colored paint. Then we cut it in to different shapes and then glued it on to the big paper. I loved doing this piece. But I wish we had more time. And I wish my hands weren't so dirty.
- on June 3, 2015
Oh Caroline ! I love your Eric Carle artwork. I recall reading you an Eric Carle book when you were very young....maybe it was The Hungry Caterpillar. Is this piece a collage? You are very creative. I would like to know more about this piece and how you constructed it. I wonder if this bird is looking for something to eat? I also love your blue sky with a few clouds. I am so impressed with your talent Caroline. It has been fun to see your progress. Love, Nonie XO

Caroline, the picture in the email that I received showed a dark city skyline with snow falling against a lovely sky of blues and purples. Caroline, You sure did create a winter wonderland! Your artwork reminds me a lot of this past winter. Brrrrrrr! I love the colors that you picked out to create this piece of art. This is a one and only winter wonderland. The materials that I used were white paint, glue, black and white paper, and tissue paper. I like how I did the trees and the snow against the ground, not just falling. If I did it again, I wouldn't put the snow on the trees and I would erase the tree on the left.

Artist Statement from Caroline This is a family portrait and collage of my family. I worked very very very hard on this collage. In this picture is me and my dad in the front and my mom and my sister in the back. We are at the pool at West Side Tennis Club. I chose that location because we go there and really enjoy it. I made this collage using fabric, markers, and glue. I learned not to glue on the portrait but to glue on the table. I like that there is so much detail in there and I included a lot in my family portrait. If I did it again, I would give myself blond hair. I also wish I had more time to work on it so I could go slower. It took three or four weeks to do.

Hi Caroline! What a happy and colorful family quilt square! When I viewed it I smiled. I particularly like the use of purple sequins and the lively pattern on the rug or beach towel. I love the details - how each couple is wearing matching patterns on their clothing - and the different shapes in the landscape. Who is the woman facing sideways in the background?? Caroline's Artist Statement: I used a leaf to make this project in colorful pastels. First, I painted the leaf white and then I turned it over on to a piece of black paper and used waxed paper to press it in to the black paper. I did that four times. Then we let the paint dry. Then the next week, it was all dry and we outlined our leaves and colored them. We had to color the leaves fall colors but we could color the background any color we wanted. What I like about this is that it is so colorful and I worked my hardest to do this and I thought it was so beautiful.

Caroline, This past Thursday, GrandVaun, Bob, Auntie Becca and I drove to Winterthur in Wilmington, DE, to see the Downton Abbey exhibit. The trees along the interstate were wearing their fall clothes in brilliant colors of red, yellow, orange, rust, brown and more, just like the colors in your newest piece of art. On the grounds of Winterthur, we saw the BeautyBerry bush that has purple berries the same shade of purple that you used in your Leaf Print. Your print is beautiful and truly represents the magnificent foliage that surrounds us this time of year. Thank you for your lovely use of color. XOXOXO G’Mom

Hi Caroline, What great eyes, lips, and tights you have in your drawing! I am not surprised because I know how much you like the bright and colorful. Hi Caroline, I was delighted to view your Community Helper! She looks so friendly - like a real "helper". I could tell right away it was a woman by her hair. I like the detail of the baton that she is carrying on her belt. I think the color of her uniform, the buttons and her belt made me think she was a police woman. I love this character because she looks like you could talk with her about anything and she'd listen and help. This is like a documentary drawing, since it shows the details we would see in real life on a police woman. Great job! I look forward to seeing more of your art work! MUCH LOVE, JJ

Hi Caroline, First, let me say that I loved that you picked a police woman as your community helper to paint. You did a wonderful job detailing her uniform. It must be difficult to use oil pastels, but you seemed to have mastered that technique quite well. Your police woman looks friendly. But, her uniform tells me that she takes her job seriously, and would be just the right person to go to if someone needed help! Great job, Caroline. I can tell you worked hard on this piece. Love, Nonie XOXO

Caroline's Artist Statement: I worked so hard on this project. It's a picture of a police woman. I chose a police woman because I used to be scared about robbers coming. To make this, I first cut it out and then used many different colors of pastelles! I like that it has many different colors. If I did it over again I would add a pocket. In her pocket she would keep all her tools like her gun. There is a specific outfit that police have to wear so people know that it is a police. If they don't wear a specific outfit you won't know who is who and then you won't have the right person to solve the problem you have.

Caroline's Artist Statement Title: The Rainbow Leaf I worked hard on this project. I used a special kind of crayon to make this leaf. Caroline Rose, I just saw your artwork online and am thrilled that you are now going to be able to create fabulous contemporary art work that I can view online. This one is in the manner of Kandinsky, as the caption mentioned. I looked up Kandinsky online and I could see the similarity between your work and Kandinsky's.
