Olivia - nice concept! You used great patterns and colors to fill in your spill. I really like this!

Olivia - What a great multi-media project! You have all sorts of interesting textures and colors - this looks like some sort of ethnic shield you could display on your wall. Very nice! See you next week!

Interesting project. Nice variation in texture and color.

Olivia - this looks like the doodles I used to make in my notebook in school all the time - I'll bet I made one just like it! You used some of my favorite colors, too. Great job! Looking forward to seeing you in just a few weeks!

Olivia - I couldn't see your artwork real clearly because I was looking at it on my phone ?? and I usually check your stuff out on my computer, but I liked the colors. It looked like a mixed media piece, am I right? I am so proud of the work you have been doing in art class this year. You have a lot of talent, just like your mom. Keep up the good work.

Olivia - You have done a great job on drawing your house! Architectural drawings are tough. It's hard to do the perspective and keep all the lines going the right way - AND make it look like what it's supposed to! You have put in so much detail and have done a fine job of getting it to look like your house. Won't it be fun to draw the new one, too?

Nice job.... looks very much like your house.

Olivia - Well, this is certainly interesting! Good thing it's your right hand. :) I had a friend many years back that did the "disappear into the canvas" thing - he would paint on his girlfriend, and she would stand there, just as still as a statue for hours, and then she'd move and just freak people out because they had NO idea that she was a part of the painting! It was so cool! These colors are very appealing, and it looks like it was fun to do. Great job!

Olivia - I LOVE the expression on your owl's face! Very cute - he looks like he has been startled and is going to say something quite profound! The detail on your tail feathers is also very good - it looks very authentic. As always, you have done a great job.

Nice job, Olivia! I never could draw human faces worth a darn, so I always appreciate other artist's attempts! This sort of makes you look like Gwyneth Paltrow, which is a good thing, I'm thinking... I am so glad your school is still doing this Artsonia thing, so I can see all the artwork you are doing in school. Pretty soon I will be able to see Zoey's stuff, too! I love you and miss you so much!

Olivia - This is VERY cute! Great Grampa Jim will especially like this because he is very fond of birds (you know how many he has at his house!) :) I like the way your bird can both sit on a desk/shelf or be hung up, too; that makes it very clever. I can't wait to see you in a few weeks!

Olivia, this is superb! I love computer-generated artwork - it is so clever and is, I think, the upcoming media for your generation, as there are sooo many possibilities with it. The fishies are just as cute as can be (but I am partial to fishies anyhow) and I love the bright colors, as always. Great job! I can't wait to see you next month!!

Another great picture. How did you make the fish??? Are they cut out of wallpaper or did you actually make them on the computer. I love watching your creativity and artistic abilities grow. Love, Grammy Pat

Great colors, Olivia! I think I saw this farm today as Matthew and I drove through Oregon on our way to Boise, Idaho for one of his auditions - we left the hotel at 6 in the morning just as the sun was coming up, and there were farms all around us!! (Were you hiding in the back seat of my car?) I love the details you have put in for all the different rows of crops; this is very creative. Once again, a very nice job!!

Hey Olivia, nice volcano! Is this in honor of Grammy Pat and Grampa Tom's trip to Hawaii and Fiji (and Australia, etc) where there are volcanoes? Or were you maybe missing me and all of your other relatives out here in Washington State where we have lots of them ready to blow - or did I misinterpret and is it maybe just a mountain with snow? It IS a very good representation of the original - Daniel used to copy paintings of the masters when he was in college taking his art classes, so I know this is good practice. Keep up the good work! Miss you lots!

Olivia - Sweetheart, this is extraordinary! I simply adore Asian art! Do you know who else does? Aunt Cindy, Uncle Mikey's (my brother) wife - she has even take special classes to learn how to do it and she is really good, too. The next time I come to see you, I hope I will get to see this painting in person, because it is really beautiful. Love you so much!

Olivia - I love the colors you used to illustrate your name! It was fun to look at all the things you love; sports, obviously, although it took me a moment to figure out that you were swimming in Grammy Pat's pool at the bottom (and not sleeping - that's one of my favorite sports!). Keep up the good work this year!

Well, of course you would make a wonderful cake! This looks a little crazier than your momma's cakes , kind of something out of "Alice in Wonderland" and topsy-turvy, but I love the bright colors (and I'll bet it tastes good too! What do you think? It looks the the top layer is blueberry cake with raspberry or maybe grape frosting in the middle and lemon and orange swirls on the top - fantastic! (psst! and Chris can't see any of it! tee hee! My boys can't either!) See you soon!

Olivia - Your new Sun Plaque is very cute! The colors are so bright and cheery, and the sun has such a happy expression on its face. Maybe someday, when I get my glass studio up and running again, I will try to recreate this for you in a glass pendant - it would look pretty cool! Keep up the good work!

Olivia - Your purple Alien is so adorable! He (she?) has a great kooky eyeball, and the toothy smile makes me laugh every time I look at him/her. Once again, you have done an excellent job with with your color choices and horizon. Great job!

Olivia - This painting is excellent! Your shadows are very good and the sky is so pretty. Go to Gramma Pat's bedroom and look at the stained glass window - your birch trees kind of look like some of the trees I made in that window - so we are both geniuses! :) Love you and miss you lots...

Olivia, Your ice cream cones look good enough to eat! The border is so pretty, and I really like the way your cones look so waffle-y - it's very hard to do texture well, and you have done a great job of it. I am so proud of the wonderful progress you are making with your art projects! Just a few more weeks until I will get to see you! lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Another nice drawing Olivia. I hope it is the only snowman I see this winter!
-- Uncle Corey
- on January 12, 2012
Olivia - What a nice warm snowman! You have made such a beautiful sweater for him - will you make one for me, too? I really like the colors, and those blue and green stripes would look awesome with our blonde hair, don't you think? Uncle Finn says this drawing would make an excellent Christmas card, and he is right. He said maybe your Mom and Chris could use it next year, except it's more fun to have a photo of you and Zoey and Bodie! Your art is SO special, and I am really proud of you! lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Olivia - your clay pot is wonderful! I remember doing them when I was your age, and I am sure that mine didn't look anywhere near as nice as yours - plus we didn't get to paint ours, and I love the bright red color that you did yours! My Daniel (he is Chris' cousin) is an artist, and he used to do a lot of pots and stuff with clay when he was in college, and he liked it a lot. Maybe when you get older you will do more and be an artist, too! I hope you have a great Christmas! lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Olivia, this is BEAUTIFUL! I think it should be framed and hung over the piano. Do you have a piano? (I can't remember) If not, then maybe it would be a really nice gift for Gramma Pat's birthday... Your background colors are excellent; a nice blend. I like the way you have used the real music pieces as tassels, too. I think this is your best piece yet! lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Hooray! New artwork! I was hoping that you would publish something soon because I really love to see the great things that you make. I am sure that your teacher told you all about how MEHNDI is a very old and beautiful traditional way to decorate the body, especially hands. I like the way you balanced your design. You have a very good eye, as an artist. lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Love your newest piece of art. Will have to have you weave something for me.... Keep up the good work. Love, Grammy Pat
-- Pat
- on May 6, 2011
Olivia, your weaving project is very colorful - nice and even, too! I always enjoyed doing this kind of project, and I had a small loom when I was a little girl. When I was about Jacob's age, I took special art lessons for a couple of years and learned how to do all kinds of painting and sculpting, and weaving, too. And yes, that was where I first learned to do stained glass, which is the kind of artist I am now!! lots of love, Auntie Barbe

Olivia, I love your new Safari painting! The colors are so beautiful. It makes me imagine a wonderful sunset on the Serengeti Plains. Did you know that your cousin Matthew has been to South Africa? He even got to ride an ostrich in a race!!

Oh Sweetie, these bugs look like something you'd find if you looked under a microscope - really creepy! I love them! Your colors are so bright, too. Don't let these little bugs crawl up your legs when you're not looking.... love, Auntie Barbe!

Olivia - I REALLY like your artwork! I especially like your blue picture, and the circus train, too (I love circus stuff). I know your Gramma Pat likes the Snow Bunny the best - the eyes on the bunny are so cute! I just sent out a box to Gramma Pat that has some gifts for you and Zoey. These are very late birthday presents. There are some for Lacey and Jacob, too. I am really sorry that I didn't send them sooner. They were supposed to go back with Great-Grampa Jim when he came to visit me in March, but they were too heavy. I hope you like them. We are busy getting ready for Matthew's wedding in November. I hope you will be able to come to the wedding. It's going to be a lot of fun! We all love you and miss you!

I am with Great-Grandpa Jim, Auntie Barbe & Uncle Finn in Washington DC and was able to share your artwork with them. I will forward the website information to Auntie Barbe at home so she can show your artwork to Daniel (who is an artist himself). Great Job as usual - your snow bunny is still my favorite. Grammy Pat
