Mikayla, the colors you used are striking in this picture. So what is the cowboy saying? I hope you know these would be good illustrations for a story. The horse shape is excellent. Mikayla, don't ever stop -- just better and better!

Now I am shivering, just looking at the artistic picture with smoke accenting the sky, and snow accenting the rest of the pictures. Poofy banks of snow with fence posts showing the way to boundaries. The green light emanating from the house makes the picture seem even more night time. Always love to see the detail in your pictures, and the way you 'see' life. Thanks!

Very good picture of granny doing her gardening!!!!! Like the colors, too. Love, Great Poppa & Gran
- on November 22, 2014
Dear Mikaya, This picture is vividly the last days of summer. The color of yellow makes the scene seem so warm. The resolute face on the lady's face reminds me of my Mom when she used to gather things from the garden. It is a 'git-er-done' look. The basket has so much detail in it. Very well done. Thanks, Mikayla, for a great 'harvest' picture. --Emily
- on November 22, 2014

This scene, of a cabin in the woods, speaks of peace. Not even a tv antenna on the house. The quiet of this remote house is intriguing. Thanks, Mikayla. I also like the use of lines on both buildings... Emily

Mikayla, I love that you painted the flag flying against a blue, blue sky. When I think of all the flag means to each of us, it is the perfect choice. I love the way you made the wind seem to be blowing and waving the flag. That takes an eye that can visualize the shape and the colors. Terrific. I see you are in the 6th grade. Mikayla, I am proud of you!!! And I miss you. --Emily
- on November 22, 2014
Kayla, I loved your flag flowing gently in the breeze, great job! Love ya, Gr. Gran

Great, Mikayla. A 'together' girl, who is seeing a memory behind those eyes. You have lots of great memories already, Mikayla, as an artist, swimmer, friend, musician and more I don't know about. I think about those when I see your drawing. Go, Mikayla!!!!
-- Emily

Mikayla, this is excellent on so many levels. My first reaction was "Ooops!" The gat flying off is a good touch. I love the exciting colors. The horse seems to be suspended in surprise as the cowboy tries to ward him off. This is a 'what's Next' picture. Thinking of all kind of captions. I bet your Dad can, too. The horse seems to be in a state of shock. Mikayla, you have reached a level as an artist to be able to paint and draw well enough to depict a story. I remember drawing a cow on the board for 6th graders and they asked what it was. I wrote COW on the drawing. You do not have that problem. I so enjoy seeing your progress...love, Emily

Like your American Indian. Faces are probably the hardest thing to do. Love, Gr. Poppa & Gran
- on August 31, 2014
Mikayla, this painting surprised me. So different than your usual paintings. The stark reality of black and white brings out the contour and shape of this nan. I can see that the age lies heavily on this nan through the lines on his face. Congratulations for creating a Hunan face with such a heart for him as a person. His deep discouragement is reflected in the drooping feathers. Love this! Your friend, Emily

Cool picture. I like all the background colors a lot. Your cousin Kodi is working on a similar picture in her art class here in Ohio. Keep up the great work honey!
-- Gina
- on August 31, 2014
Mikayla, this painting is very interesting. The background is a striking use of color. The portrait of the lady seems stern with her hair framing her stern-ness. She seems to be a character in a story, laden with a knowledge of right and wrong. She knows how to do things correctly and has similar expectations for others around her. Good job, Mikayla. Paintings that have a message seem to be your forte! Proud of you.

Oh, Mikayla, what a striking painting. I love the tree..Such brilliant tree. Reminds me of the poem, I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed, against the flowing breast. A tree that looks at God all day and lifts her leafy arms to pray... The sky echoes the colors of the tree. Then the water is exquisite. You are seeing with your heart as well as your eyes! Beautiful!

I love the way you positioned your family so close together... That says a lot about how close all of you are. Even the tree wants to be a part of the family. See how it leans toward your Dad. The way objects are placed in a painting tells a story. merry Christmas to you and your family!!! Your friend, Emily

Dear Mikayla, What a study in light and dark! Loved the symbolism that spoke to me. I will let you guess what Your painting said to me. The contrast of light on dark and the fluidity of the light made me think of angels in flight. Love the fact that your paintings always 'say' something to me. Keep painting... Your friend, Emily
- on August 31, 2014

Wow! Kayla This is so neat, looks like a mask, but am sure it is to be a contrast of black and white. Love ya, Gr. Gran

Oh, Mikayla, Such a beautiful sea of colors. I wonder how you made it so hazy. Is this water colors? Incredible, ethereal look that makes it seem like a dream. Thanks for posting.... Emily
- on August 31, 2014

Mikayla, your picture this time is an inversion of black to white. Makes me look two or three times trying to figure out just what I am seeing. It is an complex study that makes my mind flip back and forth. I bet it took a lot of thought to reflect the black side into the white. Excellent. Your friend, Emily

Oh, Mikayla....I love your, picture of Kennedy. So many details, eyes with depth, the shading, the incredible grin, the shadow under the lower lip come together to give this man a personality. Congratulations!

Mikayla, love the colors -- makes the details so vivid. I know that it took a lot of work to get the sails of the ship, just so. So proud of your ability to express what you 'see' It just keeps getting better and better.

This painting makes me wonder what happened just before this moment. The orange background gives the painting more action. Now I wonder what happened AFTER this moment. Did the mule jump on the cowboy's back for a ride? Lots of implied action, including the movement of the rope. I like the expression on the mule's face, following his eyes. Good job, Mikayla.

Wow, Mikayla, when this picture came in my email, my desire for chocolate escalated. I think the cone reminded me of a chocolate kiss. The stick on the left reminded me of the peppermint candy cane our Grandma gave us every Christmas. Loved the shadows of the objects that made the picture come alive. The blue portion at the top...gives it depth, as well as the shadows. Always wonder what you will 'see' next time. Thanks, Your friend, Emily

Amazing, Mikayla, how you captured a shimmering sea with shadows ..using orange and yellow. Recently saw a photo of a boat that seemed to be suspended in air as the water so clear. You have captured much the same effect with the shadow of the boat. Go, Mikayla!

Hi Kayla, I just love your old COWBOY picture! He's really good, He looks like he might be out in the Hills getting the Cows and Horses in from the pasture. My Daddy did those things and so did I when I was 6 to 11 years old. I rode my own horse to bring the cows in from pasture all by my self, I guess little Girls learned those things early when we were raised on a farm or ranch. You really drew a great old Cowboy, "GOOD JOB". G-Gran- Pappa and I are proud of you, Love you lots,"Lil" Grandma"
