Dear Parents:
The CAB art department has been busy since the beginning of the school year! Our Artist Spotlight for October was Claude Monet, father of Impressionism, so all students had at least one project incorporating that style, be it an impressionist painting or craft lily pads.
We also did many Halloween-themed projects such as bats, pumpkins and haunted houses. We did our first cultural study in Mexican art, the Calavera or Sugar Skulls, edible or decorative skulls made of sugar or clay during Dia de los Muertos to honor their ancestors. Taking place at the same time as our Halloween, the Mexicans gather together with family and friends and put on a feast for their passed loved ones. Even though the skulls might imply a more somber occasion, Dia de los Muertos is often a festive party with lots of regaled memories, music, and eating!
The graphic design class was busy, too. The students worked on editing and manipulating photo images, created a logo for the Crooked Arts Tree NYE competition, and actually created the calendar we are selling this year. They have many more exciting projects coming up, like creating an entire book jacket for a book to be published next year and a logo for a Boyne City business. An actual client!
Please keep a look out for two forms coming home with your kids soon.
