Lake Prairie Art News, September 9
from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher
It's great to be back and working with the kids again.  We have been learning about different artists such as Henri Rousseau, Faith Ringgold, and Wyland.
You should receive a newsletter from me approximately once every two weeks with information about what we are working on, exciting happenings/news, or ways that you can help us.

Donor's Choose Project- We have about a week left to get this project fulfilled.  I created a tax deductable Donor's Choose project requesting an iPad for the Art Room.  With the iPad we will be able to create digital art, write artist statements, create videos, and learn how to do different types of animation.
It was very exciting to receive a donation this week from a couple of students' aunt and her support of our school was appreciated.  If you can't donate, no problem.

Check with your employer or company to see if they offer employee directed donations or matching of employee donations.

I would like to take go over some of the procedures that we have in the Art room that you may be wondering about.
1.  Our classroom rules/procedures are based on the "PAWS" values; they are Practice Safety, Act Responsibly, Work Hard, and Show Respect.  Students get a warning if they do not follow one of these rules after that they clip down or get a note sent home after 2 clip downs per class.
2.  Art work goes home after the grading period is over.  There are a couple of reasons for this: so that students can pick their best piece of art work for the art show, that you can see lots of work at one time (very exciting), and so that I am sure that everything has had a chance to be photographed on Artsonia.
3.  Students are graded on Skill Development and Conduct.

Lake Prairie Art website - On this website you will find websites for students to go on, apps we use, student created videos, and other happenings in the Art room.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey about Artsonia to help me know the best way to utilize this program.

Did you know that your participation on Artsonia has put Lake Prairie in the top 5 schools in Indiana? Thank you!!!!

Finally, I would like to let you know what we have been working on.
  • Kindergarten has worked on a Clown Color Wheel and are now working with shapes and practicing our cutting and gluing.
  • 1st Grade is working on creating houses with shapes in their "Zig Zag City"
  • 2nd Grade has been learning about contour lines around a flower.
  • 3rd Grade has learned about the artist Wyland and how important it is to keep our waters & oceans clean.  They are making 3D Jellyfish.
  • 4th Grade learned about the artist Rousseau and his jungle paintings.  We have been creating a collage (sticking together pieces of paper or photographs to form an artistic image) inspired by his jungle work.
  • 5th Grade has been learning about the artist Faith Ringgold.  We are using her story "Tar Beach" as inspiration for our "Flying Over the City" animations

Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
