Dear SRS Families,
I hope this message finds you well during this busy time of year. Swimming River artists have settled in and are in the middle of their second projects.
This year our overall theme is centered on nature and the great outdoors. Student projects across grades will connect to that theme and celebrate the beauty inspired by the natural world.
3rd Grade: Third grade artists are currently learning about space, balance, and composition. They are designing landscapes using “Roll-and-Draw” gameboards. After Thanksgiving, students will begin a mixed-media collage project using symmetry to create insects.
4th Grade: Fourth grade artists are working on a mixed-media collage inspired by Charley Harper’s Seasons series. In addition to working on basic fine motor skills such as cutting and gluing skills, students are learning what colors make harmonious color combinations, how to create balanced compositions, and how to apply different painting and finishing techniques into one artwork.
5th Grade: Fifth grade artists are working on a legacy project that will become a permanent art installation at the school. They are painting a tile featuring a panther paw design.
Enrichment Opportunity:
Holiday Placemat Community Service Project: Consider encouraging your child to participate. It is a simple act of kindness that will bring cheer to someone else during the holiday season. Artwork is due December 12.
Have a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Deanna Micallef
