 Intro to Art Classes:
NanaStudents are currently completing our Hero Project. Students wrote moving essays about a person they admire and look up to in life. We then learned about a transfer printing method where we are focusing on the contour lines and shading to create our portrait prints. Following our printing we are digitally turning our prints into stamps in our hero's honor.
Some examples can be seen in our online art gallery:

We will be glazing our coil pottery this month and the precious clay creations will be coming home early next month!

Our painted record bowls  and Heart Houses pins will be up for sale to help raise funds for our  Art with a Conscience drive to help in our School fund a Well for Water in Africa. We are hoping to raise $10,000 to help reach our goal and help those in need of clean water. We will have a booth available during our Community Event to be held here at SCIS on May 4th. Please look for more information on this wonderful family event in the PTA newsletter and from Ms Carpenter. Students will be helping with booths sharing cultural arts  activities, face painting, and selling our artistic creations for our Charity Water Project.

3D Art Classes:  Students are finishing their rocking art guitar sculptures inspired by famous artists! We hope to have quite a few of our sculptures on display at our art show on May 9, 2013 Our Art Rocks Gallery: http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=640594
Students will be completing the year with pottery and wire sculptures.

PreAP Art: Students have recently finished their self-portrait box sculptures. The final results will be on display along with other examples of student work at our spring show. The diversity of the projects helps to highlight the creative qualities that make each student special and unique! See a glimpse of the project results in our online gallery: http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=635946

All students worked diligently on our graphic design art contest for Doodle for Google. We are hoping to have a finalist or possible a national winner from SCIS this year. The top price offers a $30,000 college scholarship. I am very proud of the student’s efforts in their entries and think you might see some future graphic design artists in our midst if you browse through our online gallery of designs based on our dream of “the best day ever”. http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=634265

If you have a student in art please log in to your artsonia account and encourage your student to write artist statements about all their art work this year. I am sure you will hear great stories and find inspiration in some of the art projects happening in the capitol of creativity right here at SCIS! Also I would like to take a moment to remid you that any item purchased through Artsonia will help our art department by giving 20% directly back to SCIS in the way of art supplies and much needed technology! With Grandparents and special holidays coming up I am sure an image created by your student would fill their hearts with joy!

Call for RECYCLED MATERIALS for art projects! We are currently accepting clean recyclable materials for several sculputral art projects this spring. If you have items to donate please email Ms Kincaid for drop off information: hkincaid@ccisd.net
