Lake Prairie Art News, Mar. 7
from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher
Congratulations to Kevin and Gianna for receiving their Artsonia Hall of Fame Trophy.  Many other students have received virtual ribbons in their gallery too.

In order to get their Hall of Fame trophy they need 5 pieces of artwork, 5 fan club members, and 5 comments from fan club members.  The fan club members and comments must be approved by parents in orderfor them to count.

Did You Know...
That over 330 pieces of art were added to the Lake Prairie Art Gallery in the month of February!  That is an incredible amount of art work from our students!!  Please take a moment to compliment your favorite artist & approve fan club member comments.

Projects that we have worked on this week:
  - Kindergarten is completing their colorful zebras.  We were practicing our gluing and cutting skills.  Wish we could see these in the zoo.
  - 1st is working on artwork inspired by Eric Carle's illustrations for the Lonely Firefly.  They started by painting all different kinds of paper and then created a collage using that paper of the firefly.
  - 2nd is completing their Cityscape with Van Gogh Sky.  One of the most iconic examples of movement of an artwork is Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night.   Students created their own rendition of this artwork, but located in the city.
  - 3rd has been learing about value, tints, and shades - how to make colors lighter and darker.  As part of this assignment we used the laptops to create these beautiful Value Mountainscapes.
  - 4th grade worked on a color wheel, but they will be creating optical illusions with the iPads creating Faces Vases.  We are able to create digital art thanks to the Tri-Creek Education Foundation granting us funds for the iPads.
  - There was an alien invasion in 5th grade!!!  Students created miniature sculptures of aliens out of eraser clay.  We discussed what 3 Dimensional art has (height, width, and depth) and how it is interesting from all sides.  The aliens are just too cute - be sure to compliment your favorite artist.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
