Hello SRS Families!
Swimming River artists are back in the art room and busy creating! All grades are working on their first project of the year, which will be posted on Artsonia in a few weeks. Our theme this year centers around magic, monsters, folklore, and fairytales.
Work in Progress…
3rd Grade: Engaging their imaginations, third grade artists are constructing monster collages. They are working on drawing, cutting, and gluing skills within this project and reviewing basic color theory concepts.
4th Grade: Fourth grade artists are studying the imaginative and delightfully strange style of artist and animator Tim Burton. They are creating spooky self-portraits inspired by his work while practicing drawing skills and shading.
5th Grade: Fifth grade artists are starting the year with graffiti name designs. They are working on spacing, stylized letters, varying lines to create emphasis, harmonious color combinations, and attention to detail.
Art Contests and Enrichment Opportunities:
When I receive information about art contests and enrichment opportunities, I review it with students and post the information on their Art Google Classrooms and on my school website. All art contests are optional. If your student is interested, please encourage him/her to participate. We have a lot of talent and creativity here at SRS!
Current Opportunities:
- 5th Grade Kids and Conservation Art Contest: This is sponsored by New Jersey Natural Gas and is ONLY for 5th GRADE STUDENTS. Please click on the link for more information.
- SRS Pumpkin Patch: Last year's Pumpkin Display was a huge success and we are excited to see our students' creativity shine again this year! Please see the flyer for more information. Participation in this event is optional and pumpkins can be brought in on October 14th. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Sincerely, Ms. Micallef
