After viewing a video about Matisse, we did some practice still-life drawings with a still-life I set up at the front of the room, complete with real goldfish. Discussed foreground and background, placement of objects, proportion, composition. Practiced drawing goldfish. On the final draft, drew in pencil first. Then the students used crayon to color in the goldfish and used a light crayon line to outline the fish bowl. Finished up by painting.
